I received a call from a number based in Bolton, claiming to represent HMRC, and alleging that I was involved in a tax fraud investigation. They insisted on knowing my name, which I promptly declined to provide. I questioned the validity of their approach, pointing out that surely official correspondence would precede any phone call from HMRC. The caller, in a rather aggressive tone, maintained that all conversations were being documented for court purposes and pressed me once more for my details. I stood my ground and refused again. At that point, he resorted to threats, but I decided enough was enough and hung up in the midst of his absurd tirade.
