Later, I got a call from someone with a thick accent, seemed to be Asian, and I just couldn’t make out what they were saying, so I hung up. Feels like a scam to me.

I’ve just had a chat with Bolton Council, and they’ve verified that this is indeed legitimate. They’re collaborating with NextEnergy on an energy programme, which is why the number doesn’t start with the usual Bolton Council code like 01204 33.....

So, I’m confident this is not a fraudulent call.

It all seemed quite above board, as the chap on the line asked for some straightforward information like my name, address, mobile number, email, and date of birth. He informed me that my property met their criteria for assistance. I was told to expect a follow-up call to evaluate the insulation in my home.
