Right from the start she was pushing her company’s ‘better deals’ for insuring my household stuff without even asking who my current provider is (which I dont have separate insurance for anyway). Asked where she got my number, and she said they’re just ringing every number in the neighbourhood, telling me to stop wasting her time by dragging it out. Not exactly a smooth tactic for a scam, and she definitely missed the charm lesson! Proper rude and short with me, so I hung up after having a bit of fun winding her up!

Some bloke just rang me saying my current D&G warranty for some white goods was about to drop and that he needed my bank sort code and account number to sort out my direct debit. He sounded pretty believable but couldn’t give me any real info to prove he was actually from D&G. I hung up and now looking back, I’m glad I did.

I usually don’t pick up if the number’s not one I know. Most people just hang up when my voicemail kicks in. This one hung up straight away tho. I guess if it was real, they’d probably leave a message or sumthin? I really need to invest in a better phone and set up a smarter voicemail for blocked calls. I’m having to clear blocked numbers like every month now, all coz I picked up once from some scammer. It’ll take time, but I’m determined to make it onto the “do not disturb” list after a bunch of no-shows.

The bloke didn’t bother saying his name - just asked for someone who’s no longer here. When I told him that, he said he’d take the number off their system. We’ll see if that actually happens. Someone else mentioned earlier about wanting to block numbers on a landline like you can on a mobile. Actually, there is a way, but it depends on who your provider is. Try dialling 14258. It’ll give you an automated message asking if you want to block calls from the last number and gives some choices. This definitely works if you’re with Talktalk.

Watch out! It didn’t feel like a financial scam to me, more like dodgy methods to make you change your provider or insurance. I got a call from a firm saying they were working for Domestic Assist and that they had a better offer on my appliance cover. They clearly knew I had a plan with Domestic and General, but nowhere did they say they were a separate company - sounded more like they were trying to reward me for being loyal!

Got a call from some scammers who somehow knew the exact kitchen gadgets I’ve got and claimed they were switching my insurance to a cheaper provider. They weren’t too pushy even after I mentioned it was my dad’s policy, not linked to my bank, and that he’s got Alzheimer’s. The woman even sounded quite sorry about it.
