There’s this guy named Tom who rings me nearly every day about loft insulation. I’ve told him I’m not interested, explained the house is barely 10 years old, and asked him to remove my number from their list, but he’s so rude he just hangs up mid-sentence. Proper cheek! Then he rings again a few days later. Next time, I’m absolutely telling him where to shove his insulation. Tried calling back but the number says it doesn’t exist, so I can’t even block it. This needs to stop, seriously.

That bloke Tom ringed me back trying to scam me about “loft insulation” or something daft like that. I had a giggle cos I live on the second floor of a 3 storey flat and don’t even have a loft. Reckon he thought I was forgetful or summat (I’m 63, dunno if he had my age or what). Anyway, he hung up pretty sharpish once he realised. Honestly, made my day a bit brighter!

The person on the phone didn’t say their name but claimed my loft hadn’t been checked in a decade and that the insulation had to be replaced. They said they could send someone round that very afternoon at no cost. I said no thanks and ended the call. Then I looked up the number 01250356300 by dialling 1471 and I’m pretty sure it’s a scam.

Got a call from someone called 'Matthew' today, asking if I’m more of a morning or afternoon person! He also wanted to know which age group I fall into. He mentioned that my insulation could get damp and offered to come over for an inspection. Said his manager would ring me back in 15 minutes to confirm, but I never heard anything. Got a call again from someone saying “it’s about my grant for loft insulation” even though I live in sheltered housing. The number that popped up this time was 01794840153 but I’m guessing they use different numbers every time. When I mentioned where I live, the caller just hung up. Just got a call from someone saying they were ‘Tom’ as well, this time from 01969 422060 (already reported). The way it worked was quite smart - started off all robotic and scripted, but when I stayed silent for a bit, it switched to a more natural-sounding “hello, are you there?” and even answered a question pretty suitably. I reckon it could easily trick or scare someone who doesn’t know about these phone scams.

Got a call from 01824 342093 for the second time this week, with someone saying that some government-funded loft insulation I'd supposedly had put in was causing dampness. I told them I never had any insulation installed through the government, but they just kept repeating themselves. Then it dawned on me it was a recorded message because when I started asking tough questions and called it out as a scam, there were awkward pauses and the same lines played over again. Proper annoying, I just hung up!

Got a call from a Bournemouth number. Some bloke sounded quite convincing, telling my mate all about how her roof's insulation isn’t up to new government rules and might lead to damp problems. He kept asking loads of nosy questions like her age range and how many people live there - stuff you really shouldn't share. Said they’d be around the neighbourhood and planned to ring back at 10am the next day. Safe to say, she’s not expecting that call to happen now!

Got a call earlier from a woman claiming to be from some government agency inspecting insulation for safety issues. She asked if they could pop by and take a look, so I said yes. They're meant to arrive tomorrow. But once I looked up the local council's site, I figured out these lot aren’t legit at all, which is why I’m posting here to give a heads up. Don’t let them inside your home. She seemed to know I’d be alone and probably thought I’m elderly. The number she called from was 07951 008603.

01733 026815 Got a random call about my loft insulation, said it was some dangerous fibreglass the government flagged and they wanted to pop round tomorrow for a check. I told them I’d ring up the council first to see what’s what. They reckoned the council wouldn’t have a clue, which sounded dodgy to me. I said if it’s a real danger, surely they’d be informed. After that, they hung up. Watch out for this one!

This number rang up an elderly lady in her 80s and a few days later an inspector turned up, saying her roof needed re-insulating. He then offered a “special” price of £3000 instead of £9000 but only if she agreed within 48 hours. Thankfully, she found it suspicious and never agreed to anything. Please be wary of these calls and make sure to report them!

Actually, that's not right at all. Glass wool and Rock wool aren’t dangerous or against any rules, and they don’t lose their insulation qualities over time either. They stay reliable and safe for as long as the building stands. What the sellers are pushing is a type of spray foam insulation that gets sprayed between the rafters - it was first marketed as a way to hold down loose roof tiles on roofs where nails are a problem. The so-called "experts" don’t really understand insulation properly and can’t even tell you the R-value for glass or rock fibre, let alone their foam spray.
