I received a call from someone claiming to represent a medical alert system, and they went on about this product designed to enhance safety at home. To be honest, I had been quite keen on the idea. In the end, I agreed to try it out for free. However, after doing a bit of digging on the number 08002465520, my confidence started to waver. The initial number they reached me on was 01208227250, and I decided to send them an email to scrap the order. Today, I got another call from 01202375557, and I must say, all these numbers seem rather dodgy to me.

I first received a series of calls from a blocked number, all about pendant alarms aimed at the elderly. It was quite strange as they seemed utterly unaware of my identity or address and soon started probing for my bank details. Naturally, I provided them with a fictitious number, but they still didn’t even bother to ask for my name. The following call was from an 0800 number, 0800 246 5520; this time, they actually managed to jot down the name "Pullin Yapecka" - remarkably, they failed to notice the name was a fabrication! I ended up stringing them along for quite a while, tying up their time with nonsense. The last one to ring me was a young lady using the number 01202375557, a Bournemouth line no less. She was quite polite yet appeared perplexed, and after an extended chat, she resorted to some rather alarming threats about fines and debt collection. I had to painstakingly clarify my name to her. Eventually, she began to express her annoyance, claiming I had wasted her time and attempted to sabotage a business that was supposedly aiding the elderly. It’s astonishing how these scammers genuinely deceive themselves into believing they’re not part of any fraudulent activity. Perhaps they aren’t outright scammers in the traditional sense, but making such calls from a withheld number is quite illegal here in the UK, which is precisely what they did at the outset. They’re clearly crafty, as they can’t even divulge where they obtained my number, merely stating they purchased it from a database.
