Today, I got a pair of messages purporting to be from HM Revenue & Customs. Somebody rang my nan pretending to be from customs, threatening to seize her car unless she handed it over! Thing is, she's really old and has never even driven before! It scared her quite a bit but she did well not to say anything and called the police straight away. The officers said it’s a scam that’s been hitting this area hard today with loads of calls. I just received an automated voicemail supposedly from a Heather Grey over at H.M.R.C., demanding that either "you" or your "appointed solicitor" return the call regarding a "time-sensitive issue" before they take further action against you. It’s blatantly a scam, clearly aimed at tricking people into dialling some premium-rate number and revealing personal details they don’t possess, ultimately trying to fleece you of your money. H.M.R.C. handles all inquiries in writing, and I find it highly implausible that any genuine employee would leave a menacing message and cap it off with "take care."

Whoever’s calling pretending to be HMRC but not using the proper name Heather Gray or Helen Grey, is just trying to scare folks. I’m gonna report this to BT. Got a call today from someone claiming I owed HMRC £4000. They said if I don’t pay right this minute, I’ll be arrested in less than an hour. Also said I’d lose everything, even my driving licence for 5 years. I actually do have a dispute with HMRC for about that sum, so I got totally panicked by their threats. They’re insisting I call back with a “goodwill” payment of £500 within the next hour. Honestly, these scammers should be shut down for good.

Someone called me, I phoned back and spoke to a bloke with an Indian accent who said he was from hmrc. He said my passport and driving licence had been cancelled and I owe tax. They said I’d be arrested in under an hour. I’ve reported it straight away and the fraud squad is on it now. Watch out, this is just a scare tactic to grab your personal info. I've recently encountered a rather similar situation to what the last commenter described. I received a peculiar call from someone named Heather. When I answered, I mentioned that I received a sort of voicemail instructing me to ring this number. The chap on the other end seemed a bit confused and asked, "Was it a voicemail or something else?" When I called back, a guy with an accent answered saying Heather was busy in a meeting but he could assist me. He kept demanding my personal info, and when I wouldn’t give it and asked what this was about, he just hung up on me.

Some bloke called Mark Vickers rang my missus, saying she owed £3000 in tax and there was a warrant out for her arrest. She told the police straight away cos it was clearly a con. These sorts of people are proper nasty and could really frighten someone who’s vulnerable or even cause worse. LB Wales

So my mum rang this number thinking it was important, but the people on the other end started threatening her. They said she had to pay some debt or they'd take her house and car, and even claimed the police would show up in less than an hour to arrest her. It was really scary for her.

The call just dropped on them, sounded like some robotic queue thing where all the agents must've been busy bugging other poor sods before me! Today around 3:34pm I got a call from someone named "Heather Grey" who claimed I had to contact HMRC immediately and warned me not to ignore the message or something along those lines. The voice sounded odd and was hard to make out, with a weird, stretched accent. Definitely a scam if you ask me, but they really should shut this down before it dupes anyone!

I had a very similar experience with a Heather Grey. Her voice was odd, and when I called back, the person answering seemed Indian. I asked if they were calling from Bournemouth, which I doubt, as they kept saying I hadn’t paid taxes since 2012. Seriously?! I’m actually qualified in law and work within the Courts system! They finished the call with a “Take Care.” Honestly, I should’ve realised it was a scam right away.

Got a text from this number earlier today, so I rang it up. A bloke answered and started asking for my husband. I told him he’d been gone for eight years now, and the guy just cut me off straight away. Definitely feels like a scam to me.

Just like some others here, I got a voicemail from a robotic voice saying it was Heather Grey from HMRC. The message was vague and only warned me to call back quickly or they'd "take action." The call showed up as Unknown on my caller ID, but the number they told me to ring was the one mentioned here. Definitely don’t bother returning their call!
