Scam alert - got a call from someone claiming there’s an issue with my loft insulation. They said not to panic, they already know about it and want to sort it out. Bit dodgy if you ask me! :)

Saw the number came up and checked it - apparently it was from Bournemouth which is well over 100 miles from me! Didn’t pick up as I didn’t recognise it. Cheers to everyone who flagged it as a scam. Why is BT so rubbish at blocking these calls?

On 26 October 2021 around 4:39pm, I got a ring from 01202159739 saying that my loft and cavity had been insulated and it was causing dampness. After a while, I started to suspect it was some sort of scam. The person said they’d send someone to survey the loft and cavity, but I firmly told them to buzz off. I’m 74 years old and really don’t want to deal with this nonsense.

Got a call about loft insulation from a bloke who then passed me on to a woman. She arranged a visit for the next morning. Foolishly, I gave out some personal details like if I live by myself and if I’m retired. They said they’d ring back in about 30 minutes with the name of the inspector who’d come round. Both the guy and the woman sounded pretty convincing when I asked stuff. Honestly, I really should’ve just ended the call!

Yeah, totally felt like a scam. Someone called claiming to be from our local energy company, but that can't be right since the number was from Bournemouth (code 01202), which is well over a hundred miles away. Plus, he acted like he already knew I owned the house, even though I never gave my name. I told him I wasn’t interested and ended the call.

a really polite bloke who sounded like he knew his stuff and was taking his job serious - started off with “hi, I’m chris from your local energy team”.
