Seems like those Eco Energy insulation calls coming from spoofed numbers are not real people at all. I reckon it’s some sort of smart bot that listens for certain words when you respond to whoever’s name they give, like ‘Chris’ or something else. I doubt there’s an actual person on the other end, just a program picking up on what you say to feed scripted replies. If you do end up answering one by mistake, try throwing in some phrases in a foreign language - Klingon’s pretty good for confusing them!

Got a call from someone named Chris who said he was an energy consultant talking about insulation and damp problems in lofts. The number showed up with a Bournemouth area code, which isn’t anywhere near me. He wanted to know my age range and also asked me to spell my last name so his manager could ring me back. Honestly, it seemed a bit dodgy, like a scam to me.

Given my constant use of my mobile, I’ve decided to silence my landline by switching off the ringer and muting the voicemail - found some excellent tutorials on YouTube for that.
