Just a heads up about Quality Home Solutions, who operate out of Bournemouth and offer spray foam roof insulation. I got a call from 01202143973, with a woman saying she was from Hampshire Council, telling me they wanted to organise a thermal imaging check on our roof as part of a government energy-saving initiative and mentioning grants. Later on the same day, a bloke turned up claiming to be from the same company but he didn’t have any proper thermal imaging gear. He had a look in our loft and tried to push spray foam insulation on us for £6000. Our roof is already well insulated with 200mm of fibreglass and 75mm of celotex between the rafters, so it really didn’t need anything else. When I questioned him about the supposed grants, he admitted it wasn’t really a grant at all, just a VAT tax relief. Be cautious with these people, they’re gaining access by pretending to be local council reps and using hard-sell tactics to make a quick buck.

I’m a bit puzzled about the calls I got. The first bloke, whose number I didn’t catch, said he was from Quality Home Solutions and mentioned something about Peterborough Council. Since I live in Peterborough and assumed it had to do with my local council, I went ahead and booked an insulation check and quote for tomorrow. Then, a second man rang me from 01202 403707. He mostly just confirmed the info the first guy had gathered, but asked if I was working or retired. I told him I’m on disability benefits, and he said they’d cancel the visit. Apparently, if someone’s on benefits, they send out info packs first before setting up a home visit.

This call left me feeling quite suspicious. A man rang, claiming he was from Wiltshire Council offering a loft insulation survey through a company called Quality Home Solutions. It sounded off to me since the number was from Bournemouth, not Wiltshire. He mentioned someone from "the contractor" Home Quality Solutions would ring back in about 10 minutes to set up an appointment. Later, a guy named "Declan" phoned from a Bournemouth number (01202403707), but he seemed a bit lost about what had been agreed. I tried calling 01202143973 but it just goes straight to voicemail with a strong American accent and odd expressions. The other number, 01202403707, makes you wait on hold for a while for an agent, so it’s clear "Declan" isn’t an official representative of Quality Home Solutions.
