Someone rang me up claiming that twenty years back, I’d supposedly used a government scheme to insulate my loft, and now the material was supposedly breaking down and causing damp. They said they’d send a surveyor round to inspect it.
Seems like a total con to get into your place and pressure you into pointless repairs.
They had no clue my family’s been here for decades, and it was actually me who insulated the loft for my mum in the first place.

Just dead silence on the line, but you can hear loads of chatter from what sounds like a call centre in the background. No one actually speaking to me though.

Had a call today from someone claiming to be from SMG insurance about renewing some household appliance cover. I don’t have any insurance with them, so I figured it was dodgy right away. I kept the conversation going to see when they'd try asking for my banking info. Eventually, they asked which bank I use quite sneakily. When I told them they should already have that from my earlier policy, the caller insisted that info was only on the past contract. Don’t fall for this bloke, he’s English and sounds pretty convincing, trying to trick you into giving your bank details. He even knew my name, so seems like they’re working off some list. The number he called from was 01202 055080.

this evening, my wife got a call from this number. a lady on the phone started talking about our appliance insurance being switched over to some other company. she tried to get my wife’s card details by claiming they already knew our bank and even the first four digits of our card. which is kinda easy info to find online really. once my wife said no, they just cut the call.

My wife is in her eighties and struggling with cancer, plus arthritis makes it hard for her to move quickly, so answering the phone takes a lot out of her. We've been getting calls from this same number almost daily, sometimes more than once a day. Often, because we're slow to get to the phone, they just hang up once we do. I reckon it’s one of those dodgy insurance scam operations. Does anyone know how we can block or stop these constant calls? It’s really wearing us down.

Can someone please make it so this number stops ringing our phone? it's really annoying now.

My 84yr old dad got a call from this firm and they made him think he already had a policy with them. When he found out it was a lie, he was really upset. He’d been talked into handing over his bank card info but had no proper details about the company. Then, a week later, they rang me. I just sat through their rehearsed sales pitch and told them I now had enough to report them. The woman on the line got quite rude and quickly ended the call. Seriously, everyone should report these lot to as many watchdogs as they can.

Got a call around 7.15pm today, and because the number showed my local area code (01202), I thought it might be someone I know or a legit call. When I answered, the caller just hung up straight away. I tried ringing back, only to get a recorded message saying they don’t take incoming calls! I’m not insured with any protection like that, so I’ve flagged their number as a nuisance now. I’m honestly fed up with all these spam calls lately, even though I’m on the official TPS list.

Had another ring later the same day. My wife answered first and passed it over to me. I heard the same dodgy tale he tried earlier. Lucky for him he called again cos I got to give him a dose of good old British sarcasm, which he seemed to enjoy, chuckling along. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the fact that these scumbags might fool some poor soul, it’d just be laughable. It’s hard to think of a more desperate scam run by such worthless lowlifes.

This bloke rang twice in one day. My missus answered first, then passed the phone to me. Heard the same dodgy tale I’d already been fed earlier that day. Honestly, I’m glad he tried again - gave me a chance to dish out some proper old-school British bollocks, and he bit back with a laugh. If it wasn’t for the poor folks who might fall for this rubbish, I’d say it was a laugh. But this kind of pathetic scam from these low-lifes is just sickening.

I just received an unexpected call from these people. The person on the phone claimed my insurance for my kitchen appliances was on a pricier plan than necessary and that they could switch me to a cheaper one. I asked what exactly I was insured on (I only have the basic cover that comes with my home insurance) and he said it was for my oven, hob, and fridge. I explained I didn't have any separate appliance insurance and felt like he was trying to push something I didn't want. Right after that, he snapped the line. I rang back the number and got an automated message saying it was from Appliance Protection and that they don’t take incoming calls, asking me to leave a message. Then it quickly said the voicemail was full and I couldn’t leave anything. Honestly, these folks seem dodgy to me - watch out!

Just had a random call from these lot. The person on the line claimed my home appliances were insured on some overpriced plan and said they could switch me to a cheaper one. When I asked which appliances I supposedly had covered (I only have my usual home contents insurance), he named my hob, fridge, and oven. I told him I don’t have any separate policy and felt like he was trying to push a product I didn’t need. That’s when he abruptly ended the call. I tried ringing back, but got an automated message saying the number doesn’t accept incoming calls and to leave a voicemail. Then I got another message saying the voicemail was full and couldn't take messages anymore. Sounds dodgy as anything - these people are definitely up to no good. Watch out for them! Caller claimed to be from SMG Insurance Appliance Protection.

My 70-year-old grandad got a call on his landline from this number claiming his insurance firm had changed to them. Since he’s got dementia, he’s really vulnerable to these scams, and this caller actually tried to get his bank info to ‘verify’ his account. Thankfully, I was nearby when he asked for his notebook where he keeps all that stuff. I took the phone off him and started firing back questions, but they just hung up. It's honestly disgusting how anyone would try to exploit someone like that.

This guy claimed he was from some company called SMG and asked if I’d noticed their vans with a gold tick on the side. He told me I had insurance on three appliances worth a certain sum, and said he could cut the cost. When I asked what appliances and then for my bank details, he couldn’t answer. He kept saying he'd send me some paperwork because I seemed hesitant. Honestly, sounded like a total scam to me.

Some bloke called from SMG Insurance, claiming my home stuff was insured on a different policy or something. I mentioned I'm on the TPS list, and he went on about the Data Protection Act or whatever.
