Just got a call from a number I didn't recognise. After reading the comment below, it seems this might be a case of spoofing - the number is actually a private one from Bristol, but scammers are making it appear like the call’s coming from there, even though they’re calling from somewhere else. Lately, we’ve been flooded with calls about "two transactions" from local numbers too, which I bet are spoofed as well. The trick seems to be that they reckon you’ll trust a call more if it shows up as local, which, sadly, makes sense.

Got a call with an automated message warning me about two dodgy transactions on my bank account that supposedly got blocked. I tried ringing back using a different phone, and some bloke answered sounding pretty confused, insisting he wasn’t the one who called me. It’s weird because the number definitely showed up on my phone’s display. Seems a bit fishy and perhaps risky.
