This sounds like a classic con to me, just like others pointed out. I got a voicemail warning me that my IP was compromised and if I didn’t ring them back, my internet would be cut off. It’s all rubbish though, real internet companies wouldn’t ask you to call them to fix stuff like that. They’d handle any problems themselves and would probably just post a warning online or send you a straightforward message, no calls needed. Don’t fall for it!

Got a call from a scammer who was really aggressive and threatening, definitely not nice behaviour.

I keep getting these creepy calls from some weird robotic voice, saying my IP address is at risk and will be cut off in a day. They use loads of different numbers, but it’s always the same spiel. The funny thing? Nothing ever happens! Don’t even think about pressing "1" to chat with their supposed "Tech Support" - it’s just a big old scam.

Got a call from someone who said her name was Jenny, telling me my phone was about to be cut off because some hacker was using my address. I asked if she knew the hacker's name, why she hadn't just told the police. She sounded a bit lost and said she worked for BT. I wasn’t buying it at all and just hung up. Totally felt like one of those dodgy scams trying to grab my personal info.

That was totally a scam, I just hung up straight away.

I don’t pick up if I don’t recognise the number, unless they leave a message that’s actually meant for me. Got my voicemail set up that way and it stops all the waste of time calls. It’s much less hassle that way.

Got a call saying my internet was about to be cut off, total scam. Best thing is to just hang up and not bother with it.

Got a robo call from someone who said their name was Shirley, claiming to be from my internet company. She told me my IP got hacked by loads of different countries and would be cut off in a day. Then she said to hit 1 if I wanted a "tech expert" to sort a new IP free of charge. Totally fishy if you ask me!

Best thing to do is not answer and make sure you report it, that’s really the only way these calls get stopped and the people behind them caught.

Got a ring from 01179082516, some bloke pretending to be from my internet company. I mean, wouldn't BT be the name he'd drop? Told him to jog on and hung up quick. Total con, don't be daft enough to hit "press 1" or anything like that.

Got called by a number I didn’t recognise so I just let the answerphone pick it up to irritate whoever it was. Didn’t leave any message. If it really mattered, they’ll probably leave one next time.

All my computers run on Linux, so when those annoying scammers call, I get a real kick messing about with them for ages. Honestly, give Linux Mint a go - it’s free, reliable, and those scammers don’t stand a chance. Plus, it’s hilarious having a bit of fun winding them up!
