I was told it wasn’t a sales call at all. They wanted to speak to my partner, even though she never uses my phone. A while back, I did sign her up for a service through a different company using my number. The caller claimed to be from a local business and mentioned I needed to comply with new insulation rules. When I asked for their official office address, the person said they didn’t know. After I pressed further, the line just went dead. They said their firm was called Smart Solutions.

None of the details they gave me added up, even though they made it sound legit. I went along with the offer and tried to bargain the price down. Then they wanted £53 as a holding fee. I decided to ring up both iD Mobile and Carphone Warehouse, and they told me straight away that the number was fake and it was a con.

I ended the call straight away, but they rang me back about four more times within a single minute. I kept ignoring them every time. Honestly, it felt like they were just pestering me constantly.
