Got a call from a bloke with an accent saying he could "sort" my unsecured debts. He said he was with some government dept, but sounded a bit dodgy to me.

Got a call from a bloke with a foreign accent who rattled off my name along with an old email address I haven’t used in ages. I stopped using that email because it was flooded with scams. I told him I wasn’t who he thought I was. That made him snap quickly, getting pretty shouty and pushy, almost like he wanted to argue. I kept saying it wasn’t me and he insisted he got my info from the government and said I owed money - which I definitely don’t. I repeated that he had the wrong person and told him to remove my number from whatever list he was using. He just kept saying I was the person he said I was, but I refused to confirm anything and stuck to denying it. Didn’t seem to like that he wasn’t making progress, so he cut the call. My advice? Never share your details with these callers and don’t confirm your identity. Most calls from call centres are sketchy and likely have dodgy motives. If you’re reading this on this site, good on you for checking first. Leave your own warning for others so no one else falls for these scams. Wishing you all a safe and happy 2023!

some bloke claimed he got my info from the "government" about owing money. never gave them any of my details but they kept trying to trick me into saying who i was. when I wouldn't, they threatened to report me to the police for not identifying myself. I just told them to do what they want. I wasted ages pretending my signal was cutting out and not hearing them properly. after about 34 minutes, the call finally ended with me messing around with them.

After seeing all these comments, I’m really glad my phone automatically blocks dodgy calls lol.
