Today i got a phone call from a place claiming to be Carphone Warehouse's main office. They said they were ringing because i was up for an upgrade and mentioned I'd been browsing Carphone online last friday, which is true. Got a call from this number offering an iPhone XS deal for £44 a month plus a £70 upfront fee. It seemed off to me since Carphone Warehouse has never done deals like that. I rang Carphone Warehouse myself, and they couldn't find any record of it on their system. They told me this number had been flagged several times already and they've passed it on to their fraud team. Hopefully this saves someone else from getting caught out!

Went to Carphone Warehouse and was denied, then the very next day I got a call from someone saying it’s part of their job to follow up with customers who got declined to see if they could sort it. They only asked for stuff like my address and date of birth, never asked for any bank info or anything. I was on hold for about five minutes and gave up, hung up. Then I called back and sorted having the phone delivered to the shop. Got a DPD tracking number too, so looks genuine to me.

I got a call from this number and the person on the other end knew my name, saying I was eligible for a mobile upgrade, which happens to be true. He asked about the phone I usually use and which model I fancied. Claimed he was calling from Carphone’s main office. When I asked for his name and location, he said he was based in the East Midlands. The call showed up as from Bristol on my phone, and when I questioned that, he explained it was routed through a local switchboard near the customer. He insisted I’d get a better deal on the latest phone than if I went into a shop. I didn’t give any info though and told him I don’t fall for cold calls. He sounded quite convincing and I reckon people who trust more might easily fall for it. Watch out - this definitely seems like a scam!

Later on, they rang again saying they were from Head Office, trying to sell me some “loyalty” offers and packages. Had a call from someone pretending to be a sales rep, proper pushy about trying to get me to upgrade early - my contract doesn’t end for another half year! They kept pushing but couldn’t really answer any of the questions I threw at them. In the end, I just told them to stop and hung up. Then I looked up the official Carphone Warehouse number myself and gave them a ring. Turns out they had no record of that call and confirmed clearly my upgrade isn’t up yet. Pretty dodgy if you ask me.
