I just had a rather peculiar telephone conversation with two gentlemen named Nick and Calvin, who claimed to represent Octopus Energy. The red flags went up when Nick boldly asserted that he could decrease my monthly energy expenditure from over £100 down to just £44! He even mentioned specific unit prices: 16.5p per KWh for electricity and 3.32p per KWh for gas. Being rather intrigued by such claims, I allowed him to continue his pitch. He then noted with great insistence that I should reach out to him directly on 0141 367 9893 for any further inquiries, as I was now deemed a "priority customer." It wasn’t long before he requested my bank details, and naturally, when I declined, he diverted the call to his 'line manager'-though he didn’t simply transfer me; he actually went off to fetch him. While I waited, I took the liberty of searching for the number online, only to discover it had been flagged as a nuisance number. When I raised this concern with Calvin, his response was rather nonchalant as he pressed me once more for my account number and sort code. I, of course, refused. I managed to keep him engaged for a solid quarter of an hour, during which time I shot off an email to [email protected]!

Today, I received two phone calls from someone purporting to be from EDF Energy. They seemed to have my address down to the postcode and claimed they could arrange a new, cheaper tariff for me. I mentioned that I’m already a customer of EDF, to which he responded by asking me to log into my EDF account and check my current tariff. I found it quite odd that if he were genuinely from EDF, he wouldn’t just know my tariff off the top of his head. Doubtful of his legitimacy, I decided to end the call and subsequently blocked the number.

I received a call that purported to be from British Gas, but when I probed a bit further, the individual suddenly switched to discussing the UK Energy Tariff instead. Quite suspicious, if you ask me!

I've received yet another call from a number that keeps asking for Elaine, despite my repeated attempts to explain that I'm not her. I've asked them to stop calling me, but it seems they just don’t get the message.

I received a call concerning my energy account for the UK, although I'm actually residing outside of the country.
