I encountered a similar situation myself. A woman named Anna rang me up with a rather familiar tale and the identical figures mentioned. When I attempted to return the call, the number wasn't recognised - how surprising! My curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to dial the other number provided. A bloke picked up and simply replied, “Yeah, hello,” which seemed rather dodgy, so I promptly hung up.

I got a phone call from someone named Sam, who said they had a message for Mr Millington. This isn’t the first time this has happened, though there’s definitely no Mr Millington living here! The message was about some money, £2439 apparently owed by Yorkshire Bank, and they wanted me to call back on 01172300775. I’m not bothering to return the call, and I’d tell anyone else not to bother either.

Date: 05/06/18. Location: Edinburgh. I had an oddly similar encounter today. I exclaimed, “That doesn’t seem quite right.” Then I requested further details. The individual claimed his name was Sam, operating out of Extension 219 at the Information Department. The figures he mentioned were identical: a cheque for £2,439 and £1,200 in cash, both purportedly related to PPI. He instructed me to contact my Accounts Department by dialling 01172300775 to set up arrangements for these alleged payments. When you do ring, be sure to request the Accounts Department, referencing Ref. Number 292135 alongside Claim I.D. Number CBC6284. I concluded the conversation by stating, “All of this sounds dubious, as banks categorically do NOT engage in cash transactions concerning third parties!” I added, “I’ll definitely be having a chat with my bank about it!”

I just had a rather dubious phone call from a gentleman with a foreign accent claiming to be called Peter. He phoned from this number and insisted that I was entitled to a refund from my bank, which he stated would be issued in two separate instalments. He provided me with a company name, a reference number, and a contact number. However, when I probed him about how he knew I was due any funds, he was utterly stumped and merely repeated his initial spiel. I realised immediately that this was some sort of con, yet I can’t help but think that many individuals might be taken in by such tricks. With so many companies out there purporting to handle PPI claims, it’s become increasingly difficult to discern which are genuine and which are not.

Yesterday, my husband answered a call from 01172300775 while I was out. The caller claimed to be from a bank and asked him to ring Ally on that number and request extension 806. I did call back but the person on the line was talking far too quickly for me to catch everything. They said they’d transfer me to extension 806, then the phone just went dead. I ended up hanging up.

Got a call from Ally about owing £3639.00 and needing a part payment by cheque and cash. They gave me a reference number for the transaction. Definitely a scam.

I just had a rather unexpected phone call. They mentioned something about me having £3,639.00 and tossed about a few reference numbers. When I rang them back (not my brightest move, I must say), they claimed it was all a mix-up. Thank goodness I haven’t lost my wits just yet!

I’ve just had a call come through claiming I've got a balance of £3,639.00 along with some reference numbers. In a moment of madness, I decided to ring them back, only to be told it was all a mix-up! Thankfully, I've managed to keep my wits about me through this whole bizarre situation!

I received a call today from a chap named Michael, and I’ve been informed that Rosie will be ringing me back shortly. They mentioned a sum of £3,639, with £2,400 to be disbursed via cheque and the rest in cash. Now, I'm in a bit of a holding pattern, waiting for the accounts team to return my call. I'm really glad I came across those previous comments. Not that I planned to share any personal information with them, mind you - I'll be keeping a close eye on this situation!

I got a call from someone who said they were 'Sam' from Charge Back Claims (number not shared). The story was pretty much the same but with small changes. This time, it was about Barclays PPI and apparently I owed £3,639 which had to be paid by cash or cheque. They told me to ring back, ask for 'accounts' and give them the reference and ID they mentioned. I’m pretty sure it’s a scam and could be an attempt at stealing my identity, so I’m just going to ignore it!

I got a really quiet call from someone called David, claiming I was owed £2400 for bank charges. I didn’t bother calling back because I had already dealt with a proper company and got letters from both them and the bank saying my claim was unsuccessful. Luckily, my phone has a call blocker and I let it go to voicemail. They did sound convincing at first, but something felt off since it wasn’t the company I had contacted before. Just a heads up, this looks like a scam. They might have some info about you, but don’t fall for it.

No doubt in my mind, this is definitely one of those PPI scam calls.

Absolutely, I’ve had a similar experience and it’s as dodgy as they come. They lure you in with something that sounds nice-£3369 in instalments, but then comes the catch. They want you to fork out a fee upfront, and right after that, they’ll be pestering you for your banking info. They then concoct some story about needing a transfer from you to 'release' their payment, which of course, never materialises. It’s a classic con. These chaps could call themselves anything-Rosie, Sam-it doesn’t matter. The reality is they’re operating out of Lahore, but they’ve set up some sort of front with a vacant office line in Bristol. The number you ring back is likely a premium rate, costing you a tenner just to reconnect. I can’t stress this enough-STEER CLEAR! Don’t return the call, don’t pay their so-called fees, and certainly don’t hand over any bank information!

I can relate entirely; I had an identical encounter not long ago, echoing what the anonymous user mentioned three weeks back.

Recently, an Indian bloke named "Sam" gave me a ring regarding a payment protection insurance refund. The curious thing is, I’ve never actually put in a claim for it, yet he mentioned it was for a hefty sum of £3600! He claims to represent Charge Back Claims Limited, supposedly located at 137 Finchley Road in London, but the call came from a number in Bristol. After tossing out a claim number and a reference number for me to use when I called back, he oddly insisted that I keep all the details to myself if I did follow up. Quite the dodgy situation if you ask me!

Greetings, I'm Stephen Fraser. I found myself in a situation strikingly similar to what Andrew Parkinson mentioned earlier - the figures and the method of payment matched perfectly. They insisted on coming to my home address to verify my identity, but when I refused, they quickly hung up. I'm curious if anyone has insight into what this scam could be. Any ideas?

Got a call from someone named Ellie about a PPI scam, claiming that the partial payment was made by cheque and cash!

I recently received a PPI refund cheque, but then I was informed that they'd be sending someone round to my home with cash. Now I’m being told there's an 11% fee attached to this. What a muddle! Can anyone assist me?

I got a call from Charge Back Claims saying that a previous claim I had with Barclays, which was rejected, was now gonna be paid. They told me to ring 0117 2300775 and ask for the accounts department. Something felt off about it especially when they said part of the payment would be in cash, so I didn’t bother calling them back. Definitely sounds like a scam to me.

I received a rather peculiar call from someone introducing herself as Rosie, and let me tell you, her accent was anything but British. She informed me that I allegedly had £3639 in PPI waiting for me, a claim I’ve never actually made. To sweeten the deal, she said I was set to receive £1200 in cash delivered right to my doorstep and the balance of £2439 would come as a cheque. She even provided me with a reference number and a claim ID. Quite interestingly, the call originated from Leicester!

Got a call from an 020 code saying I’d bagged some PPI compensation. Felt a bit iffy when they said they’d send some money by cheque and the rest in cash! They wanted me to ring back on 0117 230 0775. They sure shared loads of info though.
