Then about three minutes later, another call came through from 01164710295 with the typical recorded message asking me to ‘press 1’. I didn’t press anything though. I went straight to the SP Energy site to see if there was a power cut in my area, and it turned out the alert was legit. Makes me wonder if scammers are able to track these outages based on location somehow? Bit worrying if that’s the case.

Got a call on our home phone in Hamilton, Lanarkshire this evening around 5:30, but I didn’t pick up because the number seemed like one of those cold call things. Got two calls today just after getting a letter from Scottish Power about the priority register. How come they are handing out my unlisted number to these callers? They said there was a planned power outage but it wasn't anywhere near me. The second call I tried 1571 to check the number but just got a loop of options, couldn’t hear anything. About power cuts, it's something you kinda gotta be aware of, especially if you or someone you know relies on a machine for life support - that’s pretty serious. Even if it’s just your alarm clock plugged in that’ll get affected, it’s worth keeping in the loop. For more info, it’s a good idea to have a look at the SP website. Sure, it’d be great if there was a better way to alert folks about blackouts, but I just don’t trust pressing buttons on my phone if some robotic voice is on the line, unless I’m absolutely sure it’s legit and safe.

I’ve received a total of four nuisance calls from the number 01164710295 on the 26th of May 2023, at 12:33, 13:00, 13:55, and 20:51 hours. Additionally, there was yet another irritating call from this same number the following day, on the 27th of May, at 08:00 hours. On each of these five occasions, my phone only rang once, and there wasn't a single message left on my voicemail! Given that I have had no dealings with anyone from the Leicester area, I'm left to conclude that these calls are likely fraudulent. It’s high time we put an end to these scam artists once and for all!
