Received a call from someone claiming to be the "Windham Group" on +44 113 320 2567 (probably working from home these days!) About Married Tax Allowance. They even knew my wife's name. Total scam - they said they help sort things with HMRC but then take a big cut of any tax refund. Best to just check your allowances direct on the Gov.uk site and claim yourself if you’re eligible.

These scammers really deserve to be stopped. But the police can’t do much without knowing how big these scams are. Every HMRC or tax related scam call should be reported to HMRC through the link on this website, just above the hotspot map. Also, any scam calls or texts should be reported straight to the police’s fraud database. Just google 'action fraud,' go to the 'police.uk' site, find the 'reporting' section, and pick the phishing report option from the dropdown. Fill out the form at the bottom of the page. They won’t ask for any personal details.

Received a call purporting to be from HMRC, claiming I was eligible for a joint benefit. It's absolutely appalling that they would attempt to swindle people, especially during such a challenging period. Preying on folks who are already anxious is simply shameful.

I'm based in Glasgow and got a call today about some scam regarding a married couple's benefit. The caller actually used my name, which made me uneasy. They had no clue my husband passed away and that I'm a widow now. The voice had a Northern English accent. I just ended the call straight away.

Somebody rang me and called me by my mum’s name. I asked who it was and he said it was the tax office from Wyndham. When I told him my mum passed away 4 years ago, he sounded quite shocked and said sorry, and he’d remove her from their records. It was quite upsetting for me, honestly.

Got a call from someone named Oliver claiming I could claim a tax rebate for married couples from HMRC. I heard the whole message but hung up when it asked me to press 1. Felt pretty suspicious so I blocked the number straight away.

It’s a tax fraud call, sounded like an American accent. Best just to block that number.

Got a call saying I might be able to claim a tax refund for someone who’s married and told to listen to a message then press 1 to get back. Felt a bit iffy about it so I just hung up. Pretty sure HMRC wouldn’t do things like that, so I looked up the number straight away and found out it’s a scam.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from the income tax office at Windham. They wanted me to hear a recorded message. It sounded dodgy straight away, so I asked what info they had on me. The bloke only knew my name and phone number. I told him I'd contact the real office myself and hung up. Then I looked up this number online.

Like some others have said, the caller actually knew my name. They said I could claim married persons tax allowance and would play a message telling me more, asking me to press 1. I ended the call right away because I was fairly certain HMRC doesn't ring you up like that. Happy I didn’t stay on the line.

I received a call on my mobile from 0116 326 0159, but unfortunately, I couldn't answer it in time. After browsing through the other comments, it seems like this might be the same number that got in touch with me previously regarding potential eligibility for married couple's tax allowance. Quite the coincidence, isn’t it?

This number just rang me claiming to be from HMRC about some marriage income tax matter. The bloke said he’d play a quick message and then asked me to press 1 if I wanted to hear more. I didn’t press anything - always heard it’s best not to! After that, it connected me back to the guy who asked if I was interested. I told him I never press buttons on calls like that and he just thanked me and ended it. I looked up the number afterwards. Watch out, folks!

Got a call from this number recently. The guy on the line knew my name, but I’ve no clue who he is. He’s rung me a few times using different numbers, which I’m writing down here. Most calls come in the afternoon, but he even called on a Saturday once. I know the voice and just hang up straight away, but it’s kinda creepy and makes me feel uneasy. Seems like he’s figured out how to spoof numbers or something.

They said it was from HMRC and there was a quick message about £1000 married couple tax credit or something. Then it said to press 1 to get a text with a link. But then it just hung up. Definitely sounds like a scam to me.

Had a call not too long ago from a chap claiming to represent the Tax Office, talking about the Married Allowance. He insisted I listen to some recording, but I decided to hang up instead. It feels a bit dodgy-how did he even get my details? Is there anyone looking into this?

Got a call from some firm, I think the bloke said Wincham, telling me I was eligible for a couples payment. I told him that wasn’t true, then he said he’d play a recording to explain. When I asked if he was from HMRC, he just cut me off straight away. The call came from a Leicester area code, 0116 326 0159. This number is known to be linked to scammers.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from hmrc, said his name was rajesh or something close, and told me I was owed money. He told me to press one on my phone, but obviously I hung up straight away. What freaks me out is that I’d just put some money into my bank before the call. Has anyone else had this happen?

I received a rather unexpected phone call regarding some sort of programme for married couples' tax perks or allowances for the elderly. When I informed the caller that I didn’t fall into either category, he claimed that it was also relevant for those who are divorced or single. Naturally, I inquired whether this was a scam, and he nonchalantly assured me it wasn't. Quite clearly, it was dodgy!

I received a call from this number, and the caller kept repeating, "Can you hear me?" I responded with a "yes," but it sounded like a youthful chap on the other end, much like others have reported. When he claimed he couldn't hear me, he mentioned he'd ring me back, but I told him not to bother. I hung about expecting a follow-up that never came, so I decided to block the number.

They knew my name but didn’t realise I’ve been widowed for ages. Claimed I qualified for a couples grant and asked me to press 1 for yes or 2 for no. When I pressed 2, the bloke jumped back on saying I’d made a wrong choice. I told him I hadn’t since I’m not currently ‘married’, but he kept saying I used to be. I wasn’t having any of it and told the scammer to jog on.

I too am in the same boat as the others who’ve commented. However, I didn’t bother pressing one to get the details. I’d reckon this is just a scam, especially since we already receive our marriage allowance. Anyone from HMRC should already be aware of that, wouldn’t you think?
