An older family member of mine got a call from this dodgy number claiming she owed £1000 in unpaid tax dating back to the late 90s and early 2000s. They said the police would get involved if she didn’t pay up, which really shook her. I kept calling them back just to mess with them a bit. The person who picked up told me his name was Daniel Reed and said he was calling from HMRC, but honestly his accent was very heavily Asian, didn’t sound at all like the usual.

Got two texts today on my landline claiming to be from HMRC. They told me to seek legal advice and warned not to ignore the message, asking me to ring back a number. Luckily, I didn’t reply and saw from others that it’s probably a scam!

I got a call from some woman’s voice, robotic and all, telling me not to ignore the call cos it was from the Inland Revenue and I should ring back. Then she oddly said to take care. Well, I took that literally and looked up the number online - that’s how I found this site and realised it was just another scam call. These days, I’m getting at least two every day. Just yesterday, it was some “Windows problem” but I’m using a Mac, which they didn’t seem to care about at all. When I asked the guy how he sleeps at night doing crap like that, he hung up on me. I really wish something could be done to stop all these disgusting scams. Two older friends of mine fell victim last month and lost money. Luckily, they managed to reclaim some from one bank, but not the other.

Got a call earlier today saying I'd get arrested and my bank accounts frozen, with bailiffs and prison being mentioned. I rang the police and they confirmed it was a scam. Got a message from a number I hadn’t seen before, 01865413305, but the message was the same as one I got earlier. It’s annoying because I bet elderly folks might get worried and think it’s something serious. Definitely seems like a scam trying to freak you out so you ring them back. The voice was robotic and hard to understand, and weirdly they ended it with “take care and goodbye” which doesn’t really fit.

This number has rung me up three times today. Like the others said, the message was really unclear so I decided to call back. A guy picked up, sounded like he was speaking with a Dutch accent. When I questioned what he was saying, he asked if I was aware of any tax problems. I told him I wasn’t, and then he said he needed to hang up because he had an urgent call from his main office and promised to ring me again later.

Got loads of calls from 01163040838 today, 30/05/2017. Total SCAM, so definitely don’t bother calling back. A woman said we or our lawyer needed to ring her ASAP because it was urgent and there might be legal trouble. WE NEVER PICK UP OR RING BACK UNKNOWN NUMBERS. We have all our contacts saved and they play a special tune, so if a normal ring comes through, we just ignore it. Pretty sure the scammers will give up before we do. Will make sure to report this to the right authorities.

A woman said it was urgent and something about legal stuff, told us or our solicitor to ring her back. We never answer numbers we don’t know. Phone’s set to play a tune for anyone in our contacts, so usually just ignore normal rings from unknowns. Honestly, I reckon they’ll give up before we do. Beware, this is a scam. HMRC never calls you out of the blue, they always send letters first. These fraudsters are just trying to make fast money before they get caught. They've been ringing from 02031296618 as well. Best to block both numbers straight away.

Got a voicemail telling me it was urgent and either me or my solicitor had to ring back straight away or I’d get hit with legal trouble. They rang me 3 times in just one day, and two of those calls were less than an hour apart. Before this, the same number 01636270820 called me with exactly the same warning. Got a call on my BT landline on 18th May ’17 from someone saying they were from HMRC. They left a message but when I asked any questions, they got really rude and told me not to interrupt them. Got a call at 2:19 pm on 18/05/17, appeared as a BT text message. It was a badly recorded message from a woman’s voice claiming to be from HMRC, telling me to get in touch with a lawyer or solicitor. She then threatened legal trouble if I didn’t call back and warned me not to ignore it.

I used 1471 to get the number and rang back 0116-304-0838. The man who answered said he was from HMRC and gave me their London office address at 100 Parliament Street, SW1A 2BQ. When I told him I’d be reporting the call to the Serious Fraud Office, he started swearing and hung up.

He spoke with a strong Indian accent, his English was pretty poor, but he sure knew how to use some colourful language.
