There was a confusing message left behind and we were both honestly terrified, thinking something terrible had happened to a relative. Honestly, whoever’s behind this call deserves to suffer badly with some nasty boils on their haemorrhoids.

I got a call claiming to be from the electric company, saying there’s a problem with the local grid and that the power would be cut off temporarily while they sorted it out. They told me to press one to acknowledge the message, which sounds just like what a real utility might do. But I wouldn't press anything else except maybe delete the voicemail or block the number after the call finished. These scammers are getting clever, but better to just ignore and waste their time than get caught out.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with VirginMedia, acting like they knew everything about my recent issues with them. Total scam, they tried to swipe money from my bank but luckily the bank’s security blocked the payment - it was some payment through Skype and a firm named Revolut or something. Plus, since my phone’s now through the router, they somehow managed to get into both my PC and my phone. Proper dodgy!

On the 16th of December, sometime around 10:50 to 11:05am, I got a call from a woman’s voice saying something like “this is a free call, press 1 to get it or 9 to decline”. I didn’t trust it at all and just hung up. But then the same call came through two more times not long after. Looks pretty dodgy to me, and I’d guess anyone that follows what it says could end up losing money or worse. Definitely something to be wary of.

This was obviously a con. They’re not even bothering to act like they’re from a bank or a council now. They just say it’s a free message and tell you to press 1 to get it or 9 to decline. Don’t press anything, just hang up straight away or you’ll end up paying a ridiculous fee!
