A courteous bloke with a calm tone told me I qualified for, or had some condition that made me qualify for, a free alert button or pendant. He might've mentioned his first name but never said where he worked. When I started asking questions, I’m pretty sure he repeated something about what I was supposed to be entitled to. As soon as I asked, “And how did you find out about this?” he quickly replied, “Alright, thanks for your time,” and ended the call quite abruptly, almost like he was in a rush to get off.

Watch out for this “medical alert” scam aimed at elderly folks. The caller is actually a recorded message that switches depending on what you say. Just got a call from Sam at 3.24pm on 12th Dec 2023. From what I can see in the reviews, Sam’s had loads of calls today but not much luck. I’m based in Cheltenham. Same old script as others mentioned. He tried saying I’m a vulnerable patient, but I’m not. Also started going on about some alarm. I told him to check with my doctor and then ended the call.

Got a call earlier today from someone named Sam claiming to be from a medical service. Said that my doctor had referred them about some medical alert device because of a health issue. I told him to take a hike since my GP’s office has my info locked down tight. As soon as I said that, he just ended the call. What a waste of time!

Got a call on our unlisted and TPS protected landline the other day. They claimed to have info saying I had health issues and no medical alert system. When I asked where they got that from, the person said they’d been provided with details of people over 70 (which I’m not) with health problems and no alert service. I then questioned where they’d sourced my number, and they just hung up. Since we hardly ever share our landline number, I’m not sure if it was just a random call or if some company has sold our details on.

Someone called me on my work number but when I picked up, there was nothing said, just silence. Not sure who it was, felt a bit suspicious!

Got a call around 5 this evening from a bloke with an English accent. Tried to convince me he was Sam, some local health worker, claiming he knew all about my medical issues and said I needed an alarm pendant. Even my usually trusting partner wasn’t fooled. I said I didn’t require any alert device and ended the call. Blocked the number, but it was probably a fake anyway, could be from anywhere really. Best not to share any info and just hang up. These lot just target older folks.

Got a call from someone named Sam claiming to be a "local health worker" around here. When I asked which postcode he was from, he just hung up on me. Honestly, sounds like a scam to me. Definitely don’t share any details with people like that.

Got a call about some health stuff, they kept asking about my health conditions. I told them no, but they kept pushing about heart issues and diabetes. When I asked them something back, they just didn’t reply and dropped the call. Strange!

Got a call from some Sam at Medical Alerts Dorset. When I asked him straight up where he got my details from, he just wouldn't say. Eventually he just ended the call when I pressed him for proof of consent. Proper dodgy behaviour.

Got a call on my home phone from someone saying they were a medical rep nearby, asking if I was interested in a Medi-Alert pendant. I told them I wasn’t, and then they just cut the call. Honestly, pretty unnerving since I do have a few health issues.

Some bloke rang claiming to be from my local health service, but his number didn’t match the area code where I live at all. He started going on about how I qualified for a medical alert pendant in case I fell or needed emergency help. It was clear he was just reading straight from a script. I told him I didn’t require any medical alert device, thanked him for the offer, and ended the call. He kept trying to push the spiel, so I figured it was best to just hang up.

Not great, honestly. I really don’t like getting calls about phonecards from people I don’t know. If I’m interested in something, I’ll contact the company myself.

Got a ring from this number today, was trying to flog medical alert devices. The bloke claimed he was aware of my health issues, which makes me think it’s not only a dodgy sales call but also that my doctor’s office or hospital might have shared my info with them. Doesn't exactly scream patient privacy, does it?
