Got a really forceful sales call about loft insulation the other day. Tried ringing them back and the line was dead. My mum felt really pushed into agreeing to a review, then they ended up selling her information to some other local company. They called her to set up an appointment, but when I tried to call their number back, it was dead too. They clearly got her details from somewhere dodgy, even though she’s on the TPS list, and they just kept pestering her. Feels like a total scam and quite worrying.

This woman never bothered to say her name. She kicked off by mentioning some insulation might be dangerous and cause breathing issues. She said they wanted to check people’s lofts to make sure the insulation was okay. Then she asked if I owned the place. The moment I told her I didn’t, she just ended the call! If it was a real concern, it shouldn’t make a difference whether I own the property or not. Seemed fishy to me.

Got a call from someone claiming to be a Local Energy Adviser, but the area code shows they're more than 100 miles off. This is the second time today I've had one of these, though they've been ringing from different numbers each time.

She rang me about checking the loft to make sure everything’s alright, but she was rushing through and didn’t really explain anything properly. Thought she said she was from NFU or summat like that, but I reckon I must’ve heard wrong. Asked if the loft had been checked in the last 18 months, then she had me confirm if I owned the place. It all sounded a bit odd, so I just hung up. Honestly, I had no idea what that was about, but I feel bad for older folks or anyone who might get confused by calls like this!

I never pick up my landline straight away anymore. I just let it ring out, then use 1471 to get the number and look it up on this website. Just like I suspected, it turned out to be a scam call. Big thanks to who-called for helping me figure that out. I’m signed up with the Telephone Preference Service, so honestly, I shouldn’t be bothered by these calls at all... weird, innit?

Somebody rang up saying my house needed a free loft insulation check and made it sound like a official government scheme. They were pushing it really hard, but I’ve had run-ins with these types before trying to sell dodgy stuff at ridiculous prices, so I just brushed them off. I reckon loads of folks might fall for it and get stung paying way over the odds for rubbish products.
