Just had the exact same call with my mum, some scammer acting like they’re from HMRC, threatening court action and asking for cash. I’ve reported it to the national Fraud Action Line on 0300 123 2040 (http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/contact-us) and honestly, everyone should do the same. It’s a total scam, nothing else.

At precisely 10:04 AM on the 9th of August 2016, I received an identical message. I didn't get around to listening to it until much later, and upon checking 1471, I discovered the call originated from 01143 031265, which is linked to the Sheffield area. I regret to admit, I might not know the details until my bill comes through, but I did call back, and the line immediately went to an answering machine. I didn’t leave a message, yet the call was cut off straight away. It’s quite concerning that such calls can reach individuals who might be vulnerable and lack the means to look up what these calls are about online.

Received a call earlier today from someone impersonating HMRC, claiming I was being taken to court due to unpaid taxes. They insisted I press one to be connected to a case officer, who, to my surprise, struggled with English and kept asking for my National Insurance number. It was clear as day that this was a fraudulent scheme. I even attempted to engage him in a bit of linguistic training, sharing a few choice Anglo-Saxon phrases. Quite the cheek!

We received a robotic male voice delivering a typical HMRC message, prompting us to hit 'one' if we wished to chat with an advisor. Naturally, we chose not to engage and hung up. An HMRC call at 18:17? I'm highly sceptical! A quick search on Google confirmed our fears-just another scam attempting to dupe unsuspecting individuals. It really begs the question, why on earth isn't BT shutting these numbers down? There are vulnerable individuals out there who could easily fall prey to such scams, leading to potentially devastating financial consequences. It’s baffling that we all have to endure this kind of harassment. With the technology we have today, there should be a way to detect and eliminate these rogue numbers. Here’s hoping the ombudsman takes note!

This morning, I got a call from some automated system purporting to be from the tax office, warning me about an "upcoming legal action." In a moment of weakness, I decided to ring the number back and hit option 1, only to be met with an answerphone message asking me to leave my details. It feels like yet another dodgy scam in the making, doesn't it?

I received a call from this number but chose to let it go to voicemail. They left an incomprehensible recorded message claiming that HMRC was filing a lawsuit against me. My instinct kicked in, and I quickly searched the number online.
Thanks to numerous warnings from others about this being a scam, I didn’t give it a second thought and promptly erased the message. If HMRC were actually pursuing legal action, I would have received an official letter beforehand.
I’m grateful for all these insights. It’s important that we unite against these scammers.

Got a call from 01143031265 claiming to be HMRC saying they’re going to sue me (how do they even know me?). They said press 1 to chat to your case officer. Sounded dodgy so I gave it a go, but all I got was music. Glad to see I’m not the only one who’s had this happen.

Same as what others have said: got a voicemail from this number and then a call, it’s about time someone actually blocked this number for good or found out who’s behind it so they can be taken to court. There’s far too many of these horrible scammers out there targeting older people or anyone who’s not paying attention.

Looked up the number with 1471 and tried ringing back. Got told to leave a message, so I left one saying if they ring me again, I’ll show up and sort them out properly. Still no call back so far!

I received a rather alarming call from this number on the 5th of August, 2016, around 5:55 in the evening. The caller claimed to be from HMRC and insisted they needed to discuss some pressing legal matters with me. They asked me to press 1 to connect, which I did, only to be left hanging with a dead line. Now, I find myself in a bit of a tizzy wondering what sort of financial implications this might lead to. Any thoughts? Cheers, Tony Hughes.

Just like everyone else, got a rude and pushy call. Big thanks to everyone who shared their stories, it really helps me calm my elderly mum down.

Today, my 93-year-old aunt received a call from this number. Thankfully, her wits are still quite intact, and I've already given her a heads-up about these lowlifes. She didn’t take the bait and chose to reach out to me instead. On her behalf, I’ve contacted 101, and whilst I'm not getting my hopes up too high, it seems the Police are treating this with some gravity.

Came back home to find an automated message on my voicemail claiming HMRC is taking legal action against me and telling me to press 1 to talk to a case worker. Definitely a scam. I checked the caller ID to get the number and rang it out of curiosity. The ring tone sounded foreign, maybe from North America, and eventually it went to voicemail. This could really scare elderly or vulnerable folks. I've blocked the number now.

01143031265 This number is definitely a scam. Normally, I don’t let these calls bother me, but this one got me worried enough to look up the number here. Thanks for having this site - it really helps to calm the nerves. I really feel for folks who don’t have caller ID or end up falling for these tricks. Harassing people like this should be illegal, honestly. Maybe if enough of us wrote to our MP’s, we could get something done. I’m sure Theresa May would be keen to stop this nonsense.

I recently got a ring from this number, and it was an automated voice blathering on about a supposed lawsuit from the tax authorities. I naively pressed 1 to connect with some "case officer," but fortunately, I didn’t stick around for a chat and disconnected right away. Fingers crossed that I won’t face any repercussions!

I got a call just the same today - the message was all jumbled up, but I could make out phrases like "lawsuit" and "case officer." When I attempted to return the call, it went directly to voicemail. I wouldn’t dream of sharing any personal information with them; I’m quite savvy about these things. Still, I'm left wondering why they reached out to me, particularly as I'm signed up with the Telephone Preference Service.

I got a call earlier today too. It was some robotic voice claiming they were taking me to court. I ended up sharing my NI number before I thought twice about it, now I’m worried it might be a scam. Funny timing as I’m just about to submit my tax return for the first time. How on earth did they get hold of that info? Really appreciate everyone here for helping me feel a bit less anxious about the whole thing.

Got a voicemail left for me! Seriously, why don’t the authorities crack down on these scam calls? They’re fully aware this stuff is everywhere yet they just sit back and do nothing. If it was about one of them personally, I bet it’d get sorted right away.

Today, my wife answered a call that left her rather unsettled. It struck her as urgent, and she nearly responded before I intervened. A quick search online led me to this website, which eased our concerns. However, I reckon such calls could really spook older folks. At 72, I’ve certainly become more vigilant about these sorts of unsolicited calls!

I recently received a phone call from 01143031265, which turned out to be a pre-recorded message purportedly from HMRC. I suspected it was a scam, so I decided not to engage and hung up instead of pressing 1 as instructed. A quick search online confirmed my suspicions; it’s reassuring to know I was right. I can see how such calls could alarm anyone not clued up on these tricks.

Received a call from this number on the 3rd of August at 11:33. The beginning of the message was somewhat muddled, but it later identified itself as my case officer. Fortuitously, I was out at the time and caught it on my voicemail, which allowed me to verify what was said.

Got a call just like others have mentioned here - the person spoke really convincingly which made me nervous, especially since I’m dealing with my taxes right now (bad timing). I’m really curious where they got my phone number from. I avoided pressing 1 and decided to look up the number online - so glad I found this website, saved me a lot of trouble.

'Received a dodgy call around nine o'clock this evening, claiming something about an arrest warrant. I'm an octogenarian, mind you! I was instructed to press 1, but I didn't fall for it. Instead, I contacted the Telephone Preference Service at 0845 07 007 07 for advice. They were quite helpful and directed me to ring the Information Commissioner's Office on 0303 123 1113. They seemed particularly keen on the matter and have forwarded the details to Action Fraud (the Police). Let's do our bit to aid them in expanding their database, shall we?'
