Has anyone else got a call lately that looked like it was from nearby? They do this because most people are more likely to answer a number that seems to come from close by. Maybe we think it’s a family member ringing or something important that we shouldn’t ignore.

So yesterday afternoon, this number rings me up asking about some car crash I supposedly had recently. Problem is, I haven't had any accident at all. I decided to play along and said yeah sure, I did have one. When they asked for the date, I just told them they must already know since they’re calling about it. They quickly caught on that I was messing about and just dropped the call. Honestly, don’t pick up calls from unknown numbers - so irritating and feels risky!

Lately, there’s been this one cold calling trick going around about a fake car insurance claim, where they say that you or someone close to you might've been in a crash. Loads of folks are getting these calls on both their mobiles and landlines, and as these scams get picked up more often, the scammers just keep getting craftier with how they try to pull it off.

I get calls like this every few weeks atleast, despite telling them I'm signed up with the TPS and that they're actually breaking the rules. I keep asking them to stop calling, but they just don't listen. These days I mostly just note down the number and report it to the TPS, ignoring the calls completely. Though sometimes when I've got a bit of time, I can't resist having a bit of fun messing with them.

I just got a message saying I was apparently in a car crash that wasn't my fault. Didn't even happen! I just blocked the number straight away.
