I experienced something quite similar, where the number appeared to be from Leeds. It rang twice, and when I attempted to answer, they disconnected. So, of course, I returned the call. After a few rings, an American bloke picks up, all chipper, saying my call is super important or something like that, accompanied by this overly cheery hold music that reminded me of a Disney film. I ended up hanging up after a couple of minutes of that nonsense.

I received a phone call from this number at precisely 8:06 PM on the evening of Wednesday, the 14th of May, 2014. A gentleman, clearly with a Liverpool twang, inquired, "Is this Mr (my surname)?" I confirmed my identity with a 'yes', only for him to abruptly disconnect the call. I promptly dialled the number back, but instead of ringing, I was met with some rather monotonous hold music, interspersed with an American female voice repeatedly assuring me, "Your call is of great importance to us, please remain on hold." It was quite perplexing!
