Shortly after that alert came through, this number gave me a bell. I picked up the second time they called. They claimed to be from my mobile company and said they needed to confirm it was me. To prove I was the owner, they said they'd send a message with a code for me to read back to them while still on the line. I got a text that looked genuine with a code, so thinking I was dealing with my real phone provider, I gave it back to them. It only hit me a couple of hours later that my phone service was dead. They’d taken over my phone, got into everything. They drained my bank account, applied for an Aqua credit card in my name, hacked my PayPal, and locked me out of my email. Sorting things with PayPal and Microsoft has been exhausting and a real pain.
