Spoke to a Chinese woman whose English wasn’t very clear! She asked for a Mr and then called me by my first names only (no last name). I asked who they were and she said I’d won something on the postcode lottery? Didn’t let her go any further since I know the postcode lottery always contacts by email… Felt like the start of an Amazon scam? Not calling back to check. This number called me at about 9.15 in the morning on 4th Sept 2021. A lady with a foreign accent claimed I’d won some prize, some sort of card that lets you save 50% at supermarkets and places to eat - sounded quite tempting! I asked which company she was representing and she said it was the Postcode Lottery, which I actually pay into every month. When I asked her how I could be sure it was legit, she just hung up. No doubt about it, this is a scam.

I just had a call from a London number claiming there was an attempt to take £1100 from my account. I got put through to someone asking if I could unlock my account, but I just said no and hung up, then blocked the number. Then, another call came from a Leeds number with the same person trying to convince me to open my account again. I blocked that one too. Definitely sounds like a scam to me.

Had a chat with a guy called Brian who sounded like he was from abroad, told me I’d won some discount vouchers for major supermarkets. I decided to humour him just to see what would happen next. Then they passed me on to a manager who claimed I’d bagged £300 for a holiday including a free flight and asked where I'd want to travel. After that, they asked for my bank details supposedly to transfer the cash. I ended the call right there! Complete scam!!

Some woman called saying she was from the UK lottery, said they operate from Morley Street in Leeds, but the address she gave was just a normal terraced house. She wanted my bank account number and sort code to send me a penny to verify who I am! When I asked for their VAT registration, she clearly had no idea what I was talking about. I told her I've been in finance for over 15 years and she just cut me off. Stay clear of these dodgy calls!

It certainly gives the impression that they’re fishing for information. For instance, if they happen to acquire your sort code, you might find yourself inundated with automated calls claiming to be from your bank, as they now have a way to verify which bank you’re associated with. Quite concerning, isn’t it?

This number has been reported as supposedly representing the National Lottery. It rang my mate and left her quite distressed. A lady on the other end was relentlessly inquiring about her age, probing whether she was online, among various other intrusive questions. As my friend tried to get clarity and posed multiple queries, the tone of their exchange grew tense, leading to the other woman abruptly ending the call. It was a rather unsettling experience for her.

Got a call from someone claiming I’d won free flights and a shopping voucher from the postcode lottery. Felt off, so I ended up ringing the postcode lottery myself to let them know about it.

Got a call from some Indian call centre, sounded like they were trying their luck with this postcode lottery scam or something. Bit fishy if you ask me!

This number called saying they were from Aviva life insurance. When I told them I don’t actually have any Aviva life cover, they just ended the call straight away...

I've just received yet another call from that postcode lottery lot, insisting they need my bank info to send me my winnings and a few vouchers. It's the same old story!
