I got a call yesterday around half past five in the evening. When I picked up, no one said a word, but I could hear what sounded like a busy call centre in the background. The call was traced back to Leeds. I've never had any contacts or connections there. Do the social workers in Leeds realise these kinds of irritating calls are coming from them?

Got a call from someone called Albert with an Asian accent, claiming to be from UK essentials. He wanted me to verify my name and address and said it was just 3 quick questions that'd take 30 seconds. I refused to share any info and asked what kind of questions they’d ask instead. Turns out it was stuff like what washing machine brand I use and where I like to go on holiday. I said thanks, but no thanks, and when he got a bit rude I just ended the call and blocked the number. Pretty obvious survey scam, which I’ve come across loads of times before.

Definitely a con, without a doubt. Guy sounded Asian but used a fake British name. He actually had the name I live under, but when I asked where he was ringing from, he dodged the question until I agreed I was the person he mentioned.
