I always just block numbers I don't recognise, like this total stranger who called me out of nowhere!

I got a call saying they were sorting out my sim card because of some network problems, but it turned out to be a trick to get me to upgrade my contract. I didn’t stay on the line for too long, but I reckon they were gonna try and get me to give away my personal details.

Got a call from someone called Hannah or Anna who said she was with 02. These scams seem to be getting worse with all the VOIP and digital calls around. Honestly, Ofcom should really step in and fix this mess instead of letting dodgy services run wild and putting customers at risk.

Totally a SCAM! They were acting like they were from O2. I told the bloke: “Say my name, give me the name of the account holder you’re ringing about” and he just ended the call. There’s plenty of ways to get scammers to back off :-) Some of them can be really annoying and keep pushing. Seriously, don’t believe them! Don’t trust them one bit!

On 1st April 2024, I got a ring while at home in Tyne & Wear from a young woman who sounded foreign. She began speaking about O2, but I cut her off quick, telling her I'd be reporting it to the fraud squad and trading standards. I've dealt with dodgy calls about O2 before, so I wasn’t taking any chances this time.

Got a message on my voicemail, sounded like it was an office with loads of people chatting away. They kept saying they were from some mobile or internet company, but it was really dodgy. Seemed like they were trying to scam others, as I heard different voices all trying to make calls or something. Definitely not legit.

Couldn’t be anything but a scam really. They rang me saying they were from O2, but I don't even use O2 as my mobile network. Total nonsense.

I got a call from someone called 'Anna' claiming to be from O2 / Virginia saying my SIM had to be swapped out within a couple of days or they’d cut me off. I threw a bunch of questions at her and kept her hesitating until she handed me over to a bloke who said he was her boss, 'Peter'. I just kept firing questions at them both till they finally gave up and ended the call after about 7 minutes. Since I’m newly retired, I’ve got loads of time to mess about with these sorts of calls!

On New Year's Day, I got a call from someone pretending to be O2. They kept going on about a new SIM card they were apparently sending me. Couldn't make out what she was saying because of her thick accent, so I ended up hanging up before she tried to 'transfer' me somewhere.

Got a call from a woman with a foreign accent saying she was from O2. She told me my phone would stop working soon because it couldn’t pick up the high frequency signal anymore. I got a call from a woman with an Asian accent, soundin' like one of those scam calls I've had before, saying she was from O2 and needed to "talk about my SIM card." Someone called saying they were from O2 and wanted to put a discount on my bill. Then they said they’d pass me onto ‘billing’ and when I ended the call, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t legit. O2 wouldn’t really ring and ask for bank info to sort out discounts, they’d just drop an email if they did it automatically, right? Seems dodgy to me.
