Got really hostile as soon as I called them out. Didn’t take too kindly to being told they target vulnerable folks. They’ve called me up five times within two days, so I’ve had to block the number. Bit sad, honestly - they must be people with not much going on, probably just staring out of a window, if they even have one. I got a call from someone who didn’t sound English at all, saying they were from BT and that our network was being accessed by unauthorised people. They rang our office landline, and since BT/Openreach had been here last week fixing the lines, my colleague almost got tricked. Loads of scammers from India are ringing up UK landlines pretending to be from BT. They say your IP is at risk from hackers, but it's just a trick to make you install remote access software. Once they get on your computer, they try to make you log into your bank so they can nick your money. I reported their number to Deeveeaar's Report a Scammer, hoping they'll be tracked and exposed on YouTube, since the Indian cops don't seem to bother stopping these crooks.

Got a call from a guy with an Indian accent who said his name was 'Steve', trying to convince me there was something wrong with Microsoft on my PC. I bet they would’ve brought up some fee for changing from public to private IP if I kept talking. When I asked where they were ringing from, they said London. Just another scam call to watch out for.

Just a heads up that West Yorkshire Police have put out a warning about a couple of phone numbers that have been causing trouble recently. It’s been spotted that calls from 0113 5191578 and 0161 7682347 are linked to people pretending to be from banks and telling folks to take out big sums of money. This is happening across Yorkshire and Humberside and the folks dealing with economic crime in the region are on it, trying to get to the bottom of these dodgy calls. Better keep an eye out if you get a ring from these numbers!

Got a call from these scammers claiming to be BT employees, but they were actually based in Delhi. They said my IP address had been hacked and was now exposed to all kinds of hackers. I told the bloke that was nonsense because IP addresses don’t work like that at all. I’m pretty sure his whole spiel was just some made-up rubbish cooked up by the criminal bosses back in India trying to trick people. Proper scam, don’t fall for it.

I’ve set my answerphone to say “I don’t pick up this phone …”, and usually the caller just hangs up straight away. Before I block any number that rings my home phone, I always check it on this site first. Scammers often switch around fake numbers, so stopping one doesn’t stop the calls completely. If loads of people have left bad feedback about a number, only then do I block it, as I don’t want my call blocker overloaded with a bunch of different spoofed numbers.

What happens is scammers take real phone numbers and copy them, so they look legit but are actually spoofed. Often the scam calls use fake numbers made by computers, and sometimes these might match real people's numbers by chance. Instead of wasting time blocking, just text 7726 with any suspicious calls. They send back directions and if loads of folks report the same number, and it’s not actually a proper number, it'll get blocked across the whole phone network.
