Turns out this call was from Compare Pensions Annuity or CPA, so not really spam. They act as middlemen arranging annuities, mostly for sums over £20,000, and get a commission when a deal goes through. I spoke briefly with someone called Ikara from Leeds. She said their system has been glitchy lately, which is why the call suddenly dropped.
