Today I got a call from PRAC Financial on my phone and also a WhatsApp message. They wanted me to provide security info before they’d tell me anything. I got really annoyed and told them straight away it’s a scam, especially since the name the guy gave had nothing to do with me. Honestly, steer clear of these lot.

Got a letter through the door from JC International, claiming to have purchased a debt from BT, with this phone number and a bwlegal.co.uk website mentioned. I know for sure I don’t owe anything and haven’t for years, so it’s total nonsense. What’s worse is they’ve got my name and address on this dodgy scammer’s list, which is really worrying. I ignored the call at first thinking it was just another scammer, but later I decided to ring them back since I was waiting on some calls. They said I’d have to hold for about 15 minutes. This is definitely a con. The number’s registered in Leeds, yet they say they’re from Warrington. The postcode they put on the letter doesn’t even show up anywhere, but the PO Box has a Manchester code; and the street looks like it’s just some random industrial estate... They’ve been sending me letters about debts that don’t exist from an old address, but they’ve been emailing my partner too. I was pretty sure it was dodgy, but this is just ridiculous!

The individual who called came across as quite courteous but mentioned it was a matter of a personal nature. When they proceeded to request that I verify some security questions, I declined and inquired what the issue was. He replied that he couldn’t disclose any details unless I answered those questions. BW Legal sent me a letter about a debt from Eon for £264.72. I’ve moved house and I’d already settled my account with them - actually, they owed me money and even gave me a refund. My account was definitely clear! The phone number on the letter seems to go to scammers, so watch out. I rang Eon myself just to check, and they told me the account was closed with no balance owing. Strange thing is, I got this letter 9 months after I’d sold the place, but somehow it ended up at my new home! Plus, the info on the letter was wrong. BE WARNED!!!

Received a letter dated 26th May 2023 saying my EE account was “sold” to JC International Acquisition and that I supposedly owe £42.11. The only thing I ever had was an iPad for uni back in 2019 on a 3 year contract, which I finished paying off last year. When I checked my credit score, it shows the account is still open, but my direct debits have all cleared and my EE account is active with no devices and yet a balance?!? I don’t owe anything at all.

Got a call from bw legal earlier, didnt pick up and just blocked it. After seeing what others said here, I reckon it’s about those scam letters I got saying I owed for a parking fine and some utility bills from an old address. They only had my old number plate (which I changed last year) and I definitely don’t owe any utility bills. Also, if this is meant to be “Leeds council”, I’ve never even been to Leeds before.

A person from BW legal called me, said they needed to speak to me about a legal issue and asked me to answer some security questions before discussing it. I asked them what area of law they worked in and whether it was a criminal or civil case. They refused to say and told me not to trust Google or YouTube for legal info. I told them I actually studied law and worked in the field myself, and asked what qualification they had. The reply was shocking: “I know enough to get by, no degree needed.” Then they just hung up.

Honestly, with how things are nowadays, these people ring you and expect YOU to give them your security details before they’ll even say what the call is about, claiming it’s some ‘private issue’! It’s absolutely awful how they hide behind GDPR to avoid saying why they’re ringing but still push you for personal info. I’ve complained to the Financial Ombudsman because it’s not right to pressure folks into handing over private details without properly identifying themselves and explaining the reason for the call! Saying ‘it’s personal’ just isn’t good enough!

People chasing carpark tickets - they sent a letter then started calling - won’t pay fines when I’ve got proof I paid the parking charges - apparently I didn’t ‘appeal’ right - it feels like harassment towards honest folks during these tough economic times.

This BW Legal thing is a debt collector. Usually they handle stuff for companies like British Gas or Seven Tent Water. If they ring you, best thing is to just google BW Legal and call them straight away to check it's legit. I left mine goin for a month and then got a letter saying my £200 debt had jumped close to £300!!

This number 0113 487 0430 rings from a landline run by Gamma Telecom Holdings Ltd. They said they were BW Legal from Leeds and claimed I owed money for a car park. We looked over our receipts and confirmed we paid the parking 3 months back, the same day they said we hadn’t. Feels a bit dodgy to me, like a scam of sorts.

This number is from a debt collection agency, if you ring back you get an automated voice and it even tells you to press 9 if you want to stop any more calls. Maybe worth ringing back and trying it out, might actually help.

A young woman rang up asking for a Kelly Taylor. There’s never been anyone by that name living here. She then tried to get me to confirm my address to see if it matched hers. When I asked which address she meant, she wouldn’t say. She kept pushing for my address, but I refused since she called out of the blue. She then said she’d take me off her list and abruptly ended the call. Sounds fishy to me, not legit at all.

Received a call from someone named "Helen" purporting to be from "B W Legal." She asked if I was (x), which I am, then said there was a legal issue to talk about, but first I had to answer some security questions (as if!). I told her to just send me a letter instead - supposedly she’s meant to do that. She sounded like she was from Yorkshire, and these calls seem to come from around there. Makes you wonder how people like her can live with themselves, knowing they’re scamming others.

Hey everyone. Does anyone have any idea what debts this firm usually chases? Their site mostly talks about parking fines but I’ve never owned a car. Plus, I don’t have an electric bill or Sky subscription in my name. I’m debt free but I gave them a ring to say they’ve got the wrong number, and they insisted they didn’t - which they obviously did.

She wouldn't tell me anything about what the company does or why they were calling unless I agreed to some “data protection” thing first. When I said no, she just ended the call straight away.
