I just received a rather alarming call claiming that there's a pending warrant from HMRC in my name. They insisted that I press 1 to chat with the officer handling the matter, or risk being taken into custody. Quite a nerve-wracking situation, to say the least!

I received a rather unusual phone call that claimed to be from HMRC. Rather than a genuine conversation, it felt more like a dodgy automated recording. The voice instructed me to hit 1 to speak to my caseworker regarding some alleged tax fraud against me, suggesting this was my chance to steer clear of any legal trouble. The line was awful at first, all crackly and weird. Later, I rang HMRC on their legit number and asked about the caller’s number. Turns out, it’s not even in their system! So I got this call from some bloke with an Indian accent, telling me I hadn’t paid my taxes and that they were gonna send someone round and I’d be nicked soon enough. When I asked what job he had at HMRC or something, he just cut me off straight away. Weird thing is, like 10 minutes earlier, I got a call on my house phone from someone with a very similar voice, but that guy was asking about a car I had listed on eBay. Could be the same person or just a coincidence, but it felt pretty dodgy either way.

They insisted that I shouldn't dismiss their message and urged me to either return their call or have a solicitor do so, warning me that failure to comply could lead to court actions. It's beyond me how these individuals believe anyone would actually reach out to them, only to most likely be scammed out of their hard-earned cash! Unfortunately, I can see how elderly or vulnerable individuals might fall victim to such tactics. This number definitely warrants some proper investigation by the authorities before someone ends up facing serious distress, either emotionally or financially. - Caller: Alleged HMRC representative.

Totally a scam, got a message from a woman with an American accent claiming to be Officer Ann Davis from the HMRC saying I had to ring them back or else I'd face "consequences". It’s pretty obvious it’s fake to me, but it worries me that some older or more vulnerable folks might take it seriously and end up handing over their bank info. That’s obviously the goal of these scammers.

Just got a call around 10:30 this morning, and it was some recorded message telling me to ring back straight away. Didn’t say who they were or anything. Sounds like a total scam to me.

I got a missed call and left a voicemail, then decided to ring them back. It was supposedly HMRC saying I’d underpaid tax and owed nearly £5k. The bloke threatened to send cops round to arrest me in the next hour - well, I've been at home for over three hours now. It’s ridiculous really, but heaps of people still fall for this. Don’t let yourself be one of those. If you’re unsure, always phone the official company directly using a number you trust, ask for the fraud team, and pass on what happened.

Checked this site before I did anything, and honestly, just don’t bother if you’re unsure. If you fancy having a laugh, ring them back, it was quite amusing. The caller had an Indian accent and started with “Welcome to HMRC, how can I help?” I told him he was the one who called me, and he shot back asking if he had actually called this number. When I asked why that mattered, he just hung up on me.

I rang this number to find out why they were pulling a scam and the daft person who answered told me it was no concern of mine. Honestly, what a load of rubbish, their attempts to sound threatening were just embarrassing.
