1 yearI got a call from a lady with a really polite West Riding accent who said it’d almost be ten years since our solar panels were put in and they needed checking for MCS. Thing is, we’ve actually got two sets of panels - one’s getting on for 14 years old and the other was done just last year. She kept going on about it, so I just ended the call.West Riding1 yearAt first, it seemed genuine, but a few things she mentioned made me suspicious it might be a scam. She claimed they’d already checked our solar panels once, which I don’t recall happening. Then she wanted to come round to inspect the panels and the inverter. I agreed to a visit but only if my husband was there, and that’s when I started feeling it was just a trick to get money from us. When I tried calling to cancel, the line was always busy or unanswered. I’ve since reported it to the police's fraud division and warned not to let anyone in. Definitely block this number!Police1 yearI got a phone call about a solar panel system check-up from a firm named Clean Energy Maintenance. They knew my name, where I live and some info about the solar panels, but like others have said before, this info was easy to find just by using Google Maps. They said they’d done the first inspection and now needed to do a 10-year reinspection, which supposedly was in the original contract. I rang the company that actually supplied the panels and they told me this was nonsense because they self-certify and don’t hire outside firms. Plus, the 10-year inspection wasn’t even due yet.Clean Energy MaintenanceGoogleMaps2 yearsThey said they needed to inspect our inverter and somehow already knew our names and the date our panels were installed. We set up an appointment initially, but after reading these reviews, we’re definitely calling it off. Feels like a proper scam, very believable though.2 yearsThis person was really insistent, trying to get me to agree to a visit so they could "finalise the end of your warranty" for my solar panels. They claimed they had done a survey before the initial installation, which I’m pretty sure wasn’t true at all. Felt a bit dodgy to me.2 yearsReceived a call about some warranty on solar panels, sounded fishy. Definitely a scam, watch out!2 yearsGot a call from someone claiming to be from Solar UK about checking my solar panel inverter as part of "The Warranty". They were really keen to drop by the next day, but didn’t even know when my system was put in (about 12 years ago) or who fitted it, or how many panels I have. Seemed like a pushy sales tactic to spot issues during the visit and then pitch me some “special” deal that’s only good if I act immediately. I reckon they found me through Google Maps (could see the panels on my roof), then cross-referenced the electoral roll and phone directory to get my number.Solar UKSubmit Your Own Report (0113 460 1079)
