About half a year ago, a firm got in touch with me about pensions. They promised to follow up in three months, but I haven’t heard anything since. Is this some sort of scam or fraud?

Got a missed call on my mobile earlier, so I called back using my landline which is ex-directory (number hidden). Spoke to a Miah Jones (classic Welsh surname "Jones"). Before anyone jumps to conclusions, I’m Welsh born and bred myself. I asked her nicely to email me her info and company details before sharing any personal info to sort out my Serps pension, but she wouldn’t send anything until I gave her my mobile number. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SCAM, BE WARNED!

I received a rather unexpected call from this number over the weekend. The caller claimed they were reaching out to discuss my pension, specifically concerning SERPS. They mentioned that I had completed an online form. I promptly informed her that I had not submitted any such form. She then proceeded to recite my email address, which was indeed correct, and insisted that having that information meant I must have filled out a questionnaire of some sort. I reiterated that I was not interested in this conversation any further and wished to end the call.

I filled in an online enquiry form trying to check if I appeared in SERPS, not knowing they’d charge £99 if they discovered a pension. I got a call back and they asked for some personal info. When the woman on the phone requested my national insurance number, I declined and said I wasn’t comfortable giving that out over the phone.
