BEWARE! This is a TOTAL SCAM. Loads of people have been tricked into handing over cash recently. During September, we’ve had tons of reports about folks getting ripped off by these awful frauds. These scams seem to be getting worse, so NEVER share your personal info or bank details with anyone. If you get a dodgy call, text, or letter, please report it to Action Fraud straight away. Also, put up a warning on social media and ask others to spread the word - it really helps stop others from falling victim. Cheers for helping fight this!

I received a rather peculiar phone call from someone claiming to be from Virgin Media, but the number they dialled was from a Police Headquarters. When I mentioned that they were reaching a police line, they cheekily declared they were actually police officers themselves and were phoning from a rather suspiciously named "Virgin Media Police Station" in London. They went on about how I was supposedly in serious trouble. While it was quite an amusing exchange, I urge everyone to stay vigilant!

My mum, who’s elderly, got a call from someone saying they were from “Cyber Security,” asking if she’d been a victim of a scam. She quickly ended the call, as she’d already lost a few grand to scammers pretending to be from Microsoft. She’s now painfully aware that it’s best not to trust strangers on the phone and always double-check with family before taking any action. I received a call from someone purporting to discuss funeral arrangements and attempting to sell their services. I promptly blocked these morons without a second thought!

Got a call on my home phone from someone saying they were with Sky, said there was a problem with my broadband but never explained what kind of problem. When I asked for details, they just dodged the question. Then they started asking if I give my wifi password to anyone nearby. I told them no, but they just kept going like nothing. They said they could show me who’s using it and told me to check my phone. I cut off the call fast, it was obvious a scam and they didn’t even know what they were talking about or why they’d called.

I picked up my answering machine and it only rang once before the person on the other end disconnected. Strange behaviour.

Somebody rang saying they were from Sky, saying my phone was compromised, but when I asked for details they just couldn’t explain. They said they’d sort it if I switched to my mobile data - that’s when I just hung up.

Somebody called saying they were from Microsoft and claimed my computer had issues. I just hung up straight away.
