It’s so frustrating getting calls from some energy firm for a Mr Hunter, like 3 or 4 times daily, even late at night! I think they’ve got staff in India or something. Every time I try telling them I’m not interested, they keep ringing anyway. One day, I swear, I got 3 calls within 5 minutes! I asked them to remove my number from their records but they just ignore it and keep calling. They even hide their number sometimes. I’m seriously fed up, these calls have to stop.

This number just rang me earlier. They started by asking if I was a Mrs McBain. I've had sales people call asking for her before, so I played along to figure out who was on the line. Turns out it was some firm named Energy UK doing a survey nearby. I then said I wasn’t Mrs McBain, mentioned my number’s unlisted and I’m on the TPS, and ended the call. I checked the number with 1471 and felt it was a bit dodgy.

Someone kept asking for a Mrs Reedy, but when I said she’s never lived here and asked them to take her off their records, they just cut the call right away. Today I got a call from someone named Martin, speaking with a strong Glasgow accent, claiming to be from Energy UK. He asked to speak to me personally and then inquired if I had received a £500 voucher they supposedly sent out. I told him yes, I already had it. He seemed a bit thrown by that and said I’d be getting it in a few days. I insisted again, trying to sound enthusiastic, that I was holding it right then. Pretty clear the voucher story was bogus, so once he realised I wasn’t buying it, he just ended the call!

Had a ring from that lot earlier today, someone asked if they could speak to me or the resident. When I asked who it was, they said “Michael from Energy UK.” I asked how they’d got my number and refused the usual nonsense about a “National Database” since I’m ex-directory and on the TPS. They then said TPS only stops sales calls, not everything else. Told the bloke he was breaking the Data Protection Act since I’d never consented to my number being used. He tried to argue I was wrong and didn’t know my stuff. I gave him a proper earful in plain English before telling him where to go.

Today I had a phone call from a woman speaking with a Merseyside accent, she kept insisting on knowing if I was the house owner. She said she was from some Energy Saving Company or the like. She asked for Mr ********* first, then Mr or Mrs *********, but all my official docs have me down as Ms ********* so she did have the right last name, just no clue about who actually lives here. When I told her I liked to know who’s calling before chatting, she cheekily said, 'so you are the house owner then.' She then asked if I’d received the £500 voucher they supposedly sent me. I just told her my home didn’t need any more energy-saving work and ended the call.

Got a call earlier today from a bloke who spoke with a really strong Glaswegian accent, sounded like he was reading from a script or something. Kept nagging me, like “are you still there?” when I stopped replying. Told me I could have solar panels installed for free. Apparently, these usually cost around £12,000 to £16,000, but I’d be getting them at no cost. I told him to send me info in writing as I was pretty sure it was dodgy. Unsurprisingly, he said they’d need to come round and check the house first. Needless to say, I blocked the number.

Got a call where the guy actually used my name straight away, said he had some advice for me. I told him I don’t deal with foreigners, especially ones who can’t speak proper English. He asked what I meant by foreigners, so I just told him again to get lost and stop calling me.
Not even a minute later, he rings back again, now throwing out my home address as well as my name. When he asked me to repeat what I had said earlier, I didn’t hold back and gave him a good telling off before hanging up.
How much longer are we gonna put up with these foreign nuisance calls before the Government actually takes some real action instead of just yapping?
To me, if they keep invading my privacy, I’ll keep giving them a piece of my mind. Getting four or more calls like this every day is way past annoying.

This number rang me around 7 this evening, and it took a bit before the call actually went through. The person on the other end spoke with an American accent and claimed to be from some renewable energy company - but honestly, that part didn’t really matter. I just acted like I couldn't hear anything, kept saying “hello? hello?” a few times, and then ended the call. That trick usually does the job for me. The TPS register doesn’t seem to do much these days. I’m even thinking about cutting off my landline, seems like the only way to protect my privacy these days. Bloody annoying :(

I got a call from a US number, but they mess around with the international code so it doesn’t show properly and you can’t just block it straight away. What worked for me was saving the number under a random name like XXX, then editing the contact so the number starts with 00441123005. After that, I blocked it for good. Hope this helps anyone else dealing with the same hassle!

Our answering machine kicks in straight away when the phone rings, which means we hardly ever end up with any messages. Occasionally, we get pointless ones from so-called claims teams, where they tell you to press 2 or 9 to opt out. We always just bin those messages. If a number calls too often, we simply block it. My tip for everyone is to never share any info with these scammers. And don’t even bother with surveys, they’re just another trick to pull you in.

Got a call from some bloke with a Scottish accent claiming to be with Quantum Media, offering £1000 in vouchers if I answered a few quick questions. I asked straight if it was a sales pitch. He dodged the answer, calling it promotional, then switched to marketing. I told him I’m on the TPS list, so he shouldn’t be ringing me. I warned him I’d report the calls as harassment to the police. He just shrugged it off with a “go on then, do it” before hanging up.
