The caller ID showed +49 178 36079364. As soon as I answered, it was a pre-recorded voice saying I’m being looked into for National Insurance fraud and that my NI number would get locked if I didn’t call back straight away. That was the first clue it was dodgy. Then I spotted the international dialling code was +49, which is Germany. Since when would a German outfit be handling UK NI issues? Total scam alert. I blocked it without hesitation.

Right from the start, it was obvious something was off - a recorded voice saying I was being probed for National Insurance fraud. They warned me my NI number would be locked unless I called back straight away. Then I noticed the number had a +49 code. When did a German phone number get involved in UK fraud cases? Pretty clear this was a con. No way was I calling back. Blocked instantly.
