We've been receiving calls from an unknown number from France for the past fortnight. Whenever we answer, the other party just cuts off the call. Today, however, we received a text from the same number (00447785542198), pushing us to ring 0899783727. Then, a woman called asking for someone named "gasmy." It's all rather dubious, so do exercise caution!

Heads up! I've just had a similar message land on my phone, but this one came from +33643011240. It urged me to ring 0899 19 94 48 and mentioned a code 84070. The phone numbers may vary, yet the message content remains identical (including the same typos, I might add!). Whatever you do, steer clear of calling these numbers!

Absolutely the same. It's a complete scam. Generally speaking, it's wise to avoid calling any 08- numbers as they come with hefty charges. On the bright side, if you encounter these sorts of messages, you can report them by forwarding them to 33700. That’s a government service dedicated to tackling scams (it'll cost you just two texts). I've received a message that reads: "I find it rather amusing to send you texts only for you not to reply." The number is 0899192650 with code 84070. If you give it a listen, you’ll see what I mean. I didn’t actually call, but when I typed the number into a search engine, I stumbled upon this site. Just a word of caution!

J'ai peut-être commis une erreur en envoyant un message du style "vous devez confondre" à un numéro qui ne m'était pas familier. Maintenant, je me retrouve avec un souci colossal chez SFR : une facture qui frôle l'indécence (1000 euros !) après un voyage en Angleterre, à cause de connexions sans arrêt de mon téléphone au WAP. Est-ce que ça pourrait être lié ? Ce numéro pourrait-il être une sorte de "cheval de Troie" pour appareils mobiles ? Étant donné qu'il provient d'Angleterre (+44), cela m'inquiète un peu.
