Last week I got a call from some scammer using 001 - they sounded really rubbish and couldn’t stick to their script. When I didn’t fall for it, some boss bloke got on the line all annoyed trying to push their scam harder. Classic BT scammer stuff.

Just a heads up, that was defo a scam call. I wouldn’t pick up if the number starts with 00, since that usually means it’s from abroad. Better safe than sorry!

Just came across this post about those wangiri scams - had no clue what they were till I looked them up online. Planning to follow the advice below and report it to Action Fraud. Tried to block the number but turns out my call blocking is maxed out, so it's not working anymore. I'll have to sort that out, but I reckon that’s exactly the scammer’s game. They’ve got endless fake numbers from all over the world, but my blocker can only handle about 100 numbers, so it’s barely making a dent.

Watch out for wangiri scams! They’re really risky. These calls usually come in the wee hours, trying to trick people into ringing them back in a rush. Anyone who calls back might end up being scammed. If you get one of these calls, make sure to report it to the police. You can look up 'action fraud' online, go to the 'police.uk' website, find the 'reporting' tab at the top and follow the steps there. The police need to be aware of how widespread this kinda scam is, so every single report counts. And by the way, these calls aren’t from Switzerland.
