The calls sometimes use automated voice messages, quote similar reference numbers, and claim large amounts in pounds despite no entry being made. Numbers appear both from UK and abroad, with some calls coming early morning. Victims note not receiving any genuine written confirmation, and the prizes are said to expire quickly. These days, loads of scams pop up claiming you’ve won something like a lottery or prize you never signed up for. They usually want you to pay a fee first before you can get your "winnings." It’s a classic trick, so watch out if someone asks for money to claim a prize you didn’t even enter for.

0019293222218 My grandma got two calls, one from this number and another from 01132456451. They said she won £150,000 in some free house lottery and said she had to claim it in 18 days! Funny thing is, this number shows up as from the US, but the other one is definitely from Leeds!

Got a call a couple of weeks ago from some number claiming I’d won £275,000 in the New York lottery. They asked me to ring back to claim the prize, obviously I didn't bother. Before that, I also had a call from +0019293222218 saying I’d bagged half a million from a Spanish lotto. My phone number is private and not on any public list, so I’m baffled how these lot got hold of it. Should I bother reporting this to the police or will it go nowhere?

Just got a call from that exact number, they repeated the same story and even mentioned the same ref no 99789. They said they’d already sent something in writing but hadn’t heard back from me, and warned to ring them back in 12 days or I’d lose the prize. Surely this is a total scam.

Got a call this morning at about 7:30 and it was one of those robo calls claiming I won £275,000 in some New York lottery. They told me to ring them back with some reference number, 99789, within 12 days or I’d lose out. Total scam, I’ve never even signed up for any lottery!

I've just had a call saying I've bagged £275,000 with ticket number 99789, but honestly, I've never signed up for any lottery at all. Same situation here.

I got a call from a UK number claiming I’d won £250,000 as 2nd prize in some lottery - obviously a scam from New York or somewhere dodgy.

Oddly enough, I got a call saying I've bagged second place in some prize, also in pounds! The message was robotic, so I’m pretty sure it’s just another con.
