5 yearsSo on Friday, a bloke named Martin Cortez from some Sherman Ellis law firm in Sacramento got in touch with me. They claimed I was at risk of losing more than 100 grand if I didn’t get back to them quickly. I gave their US number a go but it just rang once before cutting out. Their website looks quite fancy, but when I did a reverse search to see who owns it, turns out it was only created a few months ago. Such a shame, I could’ve done with that 100k - though probably it would’ve been worthless like Zimbabwean dollars anyway!Martin CortezSherman EllisSacramentoUSZimbabwe5 yearsI got a call from someone named Matthew Garcia at 0019146642388. But when I checked with the SEC, they said Cleveland Holdings Group isn’t actually registered with them. Also, Sherman & Ellis doesn’t seem to be a legit US law firm. It looks like this might be a scam trying to trick people into paying fees upfront - a classic advance fee fraud targeting investors pretending they’re SEC-approved. Just thought I’d warn others to watch out for this kinda thing.Matthew GarciaSECCleveland Holdings GroupSherman & EllisStates5 yearsI got a call from 0019162602458 and then got an email from someone called Liam Sompson at Sherman Ellis Law. They wanted me to send in some ID to "verify" my identity, probably about some identity theft claim. Feels like if I went along with it, they'd ask for payment upfront for some supposed settlement. Sounds dodgy to me.Liam SompsonSherman Ellis Law5 yearsGot a call from a law firm saying I could get some free cash, sounded too good to be true!5 yearsGot a call from someone named A M Garcia from SE Law claiming I own 22,500 shares in Cleveland Holdings. This was a complete surprise to me since the only US stocks I’ve got were bought back in 2001 and are pretty much worthless now. Maybe the company changed its name or something. I’ll keep an eye on it, but I’m certain they’ll ask for money to cover de-restriction fees, agents’ charges and so on. I know for sure I’ll refuse any request for a net settlement, and don't even get me started on the US withholding tax.M. GarciaSE LawCleveland HoldingsUS5 yearsGot a call from a company claiming to be Shearman Law, but the phone number was different - 09162602458. They said they’re located in Sacramento, California, dealing with the liquidation of some place called Cleveland Holdings. The caller insisted I had invested a big amount there years ago, so now I’m due a huge payout. They even had the nerve to tell me that if I suspected a scam, I was mistaken. I’ve no idea what Cleveland Holdings is and never put money into anything like that. I just told the guy to take a hike and find someone else to fool.Shearman LawSacramentoCaliforniaCleveland Holdings5 yearsSo, I got a call from a Liam Simpson, apparently he's with Sherman Ellis Law and Cleveland Holdings Group. Thing is, it was from a different number though - 19162602458. They left a message saying to ring back. I'm ready for it, whatever it might be.Liam SimpsonShermanEllisLawCleveland Holdings Group5 yearsBeware of Cleveland Holdings, it’s a total scam!Cleveland Holdings5 yearsHad a pretty similar situation as well. This bloke calling himself Brian, sometimes he spelled it Bryan, Taylor said he was from some Financial Service Authorities thing. He also talked about companies like Cleveland Holdings, Ellis Law firm, and Atlantic Escrow. The numbers he used were 001 646 540 9647 and another one 001 703 912 0263. Quite fishy if you ask me.BrianBryan TaylorFinancial Service AuthoritiesCleveland HoldingsAtlantic EscrowEllis Law firm5 yearsPretty much the same thing happened to me. I got emails from someone called Brian, or maybe Bryan Taylor, who said he worked at the Financial Services Authority. He also kept bringing up names like Cleveland Holdings, Atlantic Escrow, and Ellis Law firm. I was over the moon, thinking I’d hit the jackpot. But nope, turns out it was just a dream, and I woke up empty-handed. Sadly, no fortune for me!Sherman Ellis5 yearsI got a call from a Mr John Higgins, but this time the number was a bit different, from the US code 001 9168849425. Same story about Cleveland Holdings owning 22,500 shares that they supposedly want to buy from me for nearly $130,000. They said there's an escrow firm involved to keep everything safe and that there's no danger to my cash. Also, someone named Mr Brian Taylor, who they say is the American regulator, is overseeing to make sure everyone’s legit. I sent over papers with the names Sherman and Ellis, and the number of shares matched up too. It didn’t sit right with me so I blocked the number straight away and sent them an email. The phone number was odd too, came up as 1-(916) 302-1607, which raised more red flags. Definitely a scam.ShermanEllis5 yearsGot a call from someone called James Gooding, claiming to be from Sherman Ellis Law. He told me I supposedly own 22,500 shares in Cleveland Holdings Group that they want to buy back at $6.75 each. I’ve never come across Cleveland Holdings Group before. The Sherman Ellis website looks quite legit, but I only found a couple of mentions of Cleveland Holdings Corp, both pretty recent and look like small family businesses, not the kind to hold huge shares in others. I decided to give this one a miss - if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is a scam!James GoodingSherman Ellis LawCleveland Holdings GroupSherman EllisCleveland Holdings Corp5 yearsGot a call from some American bloke earlier, but I can’t remember what company he claimed to be from. Then, he just hung up on me, which was odd. I tried calling back but it only rang once before cutting off.
