At first I thought it was just annoying calls, maybe even harassing, but after seeing others complain about SHARES too, I get now that it was actually a proper dodgy scam.

She called to say her client was working on buying AIG and was willing to pay well for my shares. I told her I didn’t own any, but she insisted I had shares because of some scrip dividend. Claimed she was ringing from New York. I asked how the weather was there, and after a moment’s pause, she guessed it was chilly. She kept going, trying to get my email, but I refused. In the end, she signed off with “Take care, Covid’s still all over the place.”

Got a call back in 2015 one evening from a NY number, 0019146642388, about some Tesco shares I supposedly had. They claimed their client was going to take over Tesco but wouldn’t say who for “security” reasons. Seemed a bit dodgy to me. I told them to send everything in writing. They did give me a full address though. Still waiting to see if anything more pops up.

Got a call from someone with a really strong accent claiming to be Laura from Centrica. She sounded like she was keen to buy any shares we owned at a decent price.
