There was a call I missed around half past one in the morning.

Had to do a quick check to log into my computer, nothing went wrong.

I had to verify my identity with Microsoft to get logged in, and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a scam or anything dodgy.

With Microsoft authentication, you never have to provide any personal details.

I reckon it was one of those dodgy scam calls. The message was totally confusing and didn’t add up at all.

If you get a call from Microsoft authentication out of the blue, that’s a big red flag. They usually only ring when you’re trying to sign in. So if it’s random, you might want to look into who’s attempting to get into your account.

Got three voicemail messages from this number, all with some automated voice going on about "unable to log you in right now." No clue who it was, so I just went ahead and blocked it. Could be a scam, hard to tell really. If it was a proper company, you'd think they'd give more info in the message, right?

If you’re not in the middle of signing into Microsoft, then don’t listen to any calls or messages telling you to authenticate. Only respond if you were actually trying to log in and are waiting for a notification!

But if you didn’t request anything like this for your Microsoft account, I’d seriously recommend not answering it. It might be someone trying to hack into your account. This call is from Microsoft 365 when completing sign-ins with MFA on your account. If you got this call, there are two possibilities. Either someone typed your phone number by mistake while setting up MFA, or you have a 365 account with MFA turned on and someone is trying to log into your account. It's a genuine service (I actually work at Microsoft).
Microsoft

Honestly, I don’t get why there’s quite a few bad reviews about this number - it’s definitely one of the numbers Microsoft uses to ring you if you have MFA set up to call your phone. People saying Microsoft never calls for MFA are wrong - they totally do if you choose phone calls over texts or emails for verification.
