Got a call from them today but no voicemail or anything. I usually just ignore calls if I don’t recognise the number. If they can’t bother to leave a message, it’s straight to blocking them. Really appreciate everyone sharing the scam warnings here, it’s helped loads.

The identical number popped up again, but now it was "Vermont Capital Partners" claiming to be based in New York. They somehow were aware of my old Sainsbury’s shares from like 25 years ago and mentioned a hostile takeover or something. They said those shares were supposedly worth £3 each, but they offered £11. They even had my personal info and sent over an NDA. I haven’t responded and they’ve kept ringing me every single day for the past three weeks.

Got a call from some American women claiming to be from Vermont Capital Partners. They definitely had our name and address, then mentioned something about iberdrola bonus shares. They said there was a hostile takeover going on and sent me an email with a non disclosure agreement. They promised a big payout for my shares but wanted me to pay 5% insurance to their solicitors upfront. Thought I was onto a win, but after checking this site, I see it was all a con. They sound convincing though - watch out for these scams!

Got a call from a woman who sounded Asian, asking for my daughter but using her old maiden name from over two decades ago. She called our landline which hasn’t been used by my daughter for around 25 years. The conversation somehow veered into Barclays takeovers - bit odd since my wife gave my daughter some shares ages ago, maybe 30 years back. When I asked for more info, she said it was "confidential" and refused to share anything. Obviously, I wasn’t about to hand over my daughter’s current contact info either! After that, we just hit a brick wall and she ended the call.

I got a call from a woman speaking with an Indian accent claiming she worked for some acquisition firm based out of New York. She told me their client wanted to launch a hostile bid to buy ITV, offering a price like ten times higher than the current share value which immediately felt off. What really made me uneasy was that she already knew my name and where I lived. When she asked for my email, I said no and told her to just send any details through the post instead, then she ended the call.

Got a call on my old landline which hardly ever rings. The lady on the line had a thick accent that was really hard to follow. She said she was from Lloyds Bank, but I told her I don't talk about bank stuff on random calls. She then said she hadn't even asked me anything and just hung up. The weird part was she called me by name - makes me wonder how she found that out.

Got a call from a woman wanting to talk to my husband. I told her he passed away three years ago and ended the call. Then she phoned again, saying there was some sort of shareholding in his name - which I knew was rubbish - so I just put the phone down. She called a third time and was pretty rude about it, so I told her to send me a letter since she must have my address. Honestly, I doubt I’ll hear anything more from them!

Somebody rang me claiming to be Sophia Marquez, asking for me by name and mentioning I was an IAG shareholder. She then started trying to convince me to sell my shares. I told her off real quick, saying her phone number was flagged as a scam and to stop calling me. A lady with an accent that sounded Chinese called, claiming she wanted to purchase shares I supposedly own in a firm I once worked for. She acted like she had inside info about my shares, which made me think it might be legit at first. But then the offer they made was way too high, and that raised red flags. She asked for my email, but since the company holding the shares already has it, I told her to send any info by post instead. She didn’t seem happy about that at all. Honestly, it feels like some kind of scam to me.

Got a call on my landline around 6.17 pm today, 20th Feb 2026. A woman with a noticeable foreign accent answered and claimed her name was Rachel Walker, which I found pretty suspicious. She called me by name and said I was a shareholder in Centrica. When I asked what the call was regarding, and repeated my question since she hadn’t really clarified, she suddenly hung up. Definitely a scam, and I believe it breaks section 1 of the Fraud Act 2006. I’m going to report it, though I doubt anything serious will come of it.

She said it was all tied up in some hostile takeover, so she couldn't really share details about who the Buyer was. Pretty dodgy and unclear stuff. Ended up hanging up and blocking the number while he was still on the phone. Funny thing is loads of others say the callers are using outdated info - turns out my dad actually owned some BT shares ages ago, so maybe that’s why they called.

They keep ringing all the time, I just ignore as it's likely one of those dodgy investment scams. I've already flagged it with TPS.

I got a call from a young Asian woman who calmly told me I hold SCRIPT shares in Halifax. She said she’s with a mergers and acquisitions firm located in New York. She couldn’t say which company or person she’s representing for the acquisition. Also, she wouldn’t share her phone number, apparently due to the system she was using. She promised everything would be explained in an email - but only if I gave her my email address. I quietly suggested she find a real job instead. She asked what I meant, then just hung up on me.

Some bloke called, mentioned my late wife by name and started on about BAT shares. I told him to try a direct line to heaven and ask her when she sold them because I had no clue. Then he just hung up on me.

This number called us claiming to be from Iberdrola about some shares. My husband answered and told them to leave him alone. They kept ringing back three more times without listening at all. We ended up hanging up and blocking the number. Watch out, it's definitely a scam! Scam alert!

Normally, I just ignore calls from unknown numbers but I happened to pick up this time without thinking. I got really annoyed when some woman started talking about stocks in a company I’ve never invested in. I didn’t have the patience for it and ended the call quickly, then blocked the number. Honestly, it’s frustrating that people waste their time with this rubbish instead of finding decent work!

Got a call today from a woman who somehow knew my name... started talking about my Rolls Royce shares. I kept going "oh, really?" with no clue what she was on about, then she just hung up. Sold those shares ages ago anyway!

Got a call from this number earlier, some bloke wanted to chat with the previous tenant. We've lived here for over two decades! He kept saying it was about some shares or something important. We told him we don't have any contact info for the person and just hung up. Feels like he's working off some outdated records.

This one's a classic trick where they claim you can make quick loads of cash with hardly any effort. But the catch? They want all your private banking details first. Once they have that info, they'll just drain your accounts and take everything you’ve got. Seriously, watch out for this scam!

Even though I'm on the phone preference list, someone called me on my landline about shares in National Grid. I told them I don't talk about that sort of thing on calls and asked them to send any info by post, then hung up. They rang straight back, so I let it go to voicemail. The caller then dropped some rude remarks before hanging up!

A man phoned me, using my name, saying he was ringing from some company I couldn't quite catch about Lloyds Bank shares I supposedly owned. I told him I didn't think I ever had such shares, but he was pretty persistent about it. When I asked him to repeat the company name and give me an address, he wouldn't do it and just kept pushing me to confirm if I held Lloyds Bank shares. I told him to send any details in writing and then ended the call.

I got a call from a man about some old gas shares that have now turned into Shell plc stocks. When we talked about the shares, he told me not to share anything about the conversation with anyone. A few days later, they sent me a form to sign promising not to tell anyone about the call. Since then, I’ve had loads of calls from them, but I’ve just ignored them. This all happened about ten days ago.

I got a call from someone with an accent that didn’t sound local. They wanted to talk to my ex about some sort of share buyout. When I said I didn’t have his number, they just hung up straight away. Definitely seemed like a scam to me.

My phone just lit up with a number from outside the UK, pretty obvious scam right there. I didn’t answer or say a word, and after waiting about 20 seconds, they just hung up. I’m so fed up with these jokers. Can’t someone do something to put a stop to this?

So frustrating! Got a call from someone speaking with a foreign accent, asking to speak to my husband who passed away months ago. Told them that was impossible, but they kept going. As soon as I ended the call, they rang right back and this time wanted to speak to me! I asked who it was, but they just hung up. Such a pointless use of time and really upsetting too.

Got a call from a woman with a foreign accent asking if I owned any shares in Scottish Power, said I could earn some money. I asked if she already had my info and told her she could send me something by post to the address she had. Seemed really dodgy, especially after reading other comments saying it was a scam.

Really risky stuff. Don’t hand over any details, not even your email, because the firm is fake and the file they send you doesn’t even open. I hate to imagine what could’ve happened since I did click on it, but I’m on an Android tablet rather than a PC, so fingers crossed. It’s all about some deal to buy scrip shares cheap. Seriously, steer clear of this! Luckily I only gave them an email I use for spam.
