I got a call from this number that supposedly was from Google to verify my account, but when I looked it up, it actually comes from Washington D.C., not Mountain View where Google’s HQ is. Feels kinda shady, like they’re trying to pretend it’s a government thing or something. I flagged it because it seems like they’re messing with trust and mixing up jurisdictions.

I’m baffled why a bunch of folks are saying this number’s a scam when it’s actually the legit Google phone verification line. I just used it myself to verify a Google account since I hit the 4 accounts per phone number limit. My landline even flagged it as dodgy because loads of people marked it as unsafe here, but honestly, it’s fine!

Is this some kinda scam?? They said I signed up for texts after getting an app from Google Play, charging me £4.50 each time. Told me to call this number to cancel. This wangiri scam is seriously risky. Check the post from 29/01/20 for advice on what to do if you get a call from this number. If you called them back, you’ve likely been conned and should report it as a crime, not just a phishing issue (there are different forms on the Action Fraud site). Be responsible.
