10 yearsI received a call today from someone who claimed to be representing BT. They instructed me to access the command prompt on my computer using Windows-R, then type in 'cmd' and hit OK. From there, I was told to enter 'assoc' which produced an extensive list of parameters. The caller then read out the value for ZFSendToTarget and asked me to close that window. Next, they wanted me to run the event viewer by typing Windows-R again and checking the administrative events - unsurprisingly, there were numerous errors. The call quality was quite poor, and after a while, I decided to hang up. I checked the caller ID with 1471 and it turned out to be 0011999626. Just a couple of minutes later, I got another call from the same number, this time from a different chap claiming to be from the Windows Technical Department, saying he was continuing the previous conversation. I pressed him on whether he was from BT or Windows Technical; I reminded him that Microsoft doesn’t make unsolicited calls to people's homes. He started spinning some nonsense, so I promptly hung up again. Once more, the same number showed up when I called 1471, but he insisted his caller ID was merely a "code" of 8006 since it wasn't a traditional landline. Quite the dodgy affair if you ask me!BTWindows Technical DepartmentWindows TechnicalMicrosoft10 yearsReceived a call today from someone claiming to be with BT. They instructed me to open the Run window on my Windows 10 machine by pressing Windows-R, then to enter cmd to access the command prompt. From there, I was told to input "assoc" which produced a lengthy list of parameters. They specifically had me read out the value for ZFSendToTarget, insisting that I then close the window and do a second Run command, entering "eventvwr" to check the administrative events, revealing a host of errors. The line quality was poor, and at that point I decided to disconnect. After hanging up, I dialled 1471 to check the number, which turned out to be 0011999626. Not moments later, the same number rang again. This time a different gentleman introduced himself as being from the Windows Technical Department, asserting he was following up regarding my previous call. I was a bit sceptical, asking whether he represented BT or the Windows team. He began spouting a load of nonsense, so I swiftly terminated the call. Interestingly, when I checked back on 1471, it displayed the same number, yet he mentioned his caller ID was simply a "code" 8006 since it wasn’t a conventional landline.Windows Technical Department10 yearsSimilar to what Dennis mentioned, we too received a call from this number, yet no message was deposited.Dennis10 yearsGot a call from a lady with a strong oriental accent claiming she was with BT and threatening to disconnect my internet for two months. The connection was awful and she wouldn’t tell me who they were trying to reach. When I asked her, she pretended not to understand and then called over a “supervisor” with a very typically British name (definitely not someone of that name’s doing). Still, even then they dodged telling me who exactly they wanted to talk to. Quite sketchy honestly.BTManchester Business Park10 yearspicked up the phone but nobody said a thing, then it just hung up after a bit10 yearsgot a call from someone who said they were from BT, threatening to disconnect me. when i asked for their name, they couldn’t even tell me who they were!BT10 yearsSome random number called me, claimed they were from TalkTalk and said they were going to disconnect my service.
