Earlier today, I received a call on my landline from an individual claiming to be a technician representing British Telecom. They offered their assistance in resolving issues with my internet connection. However, something seemed off about the situation. The supposed technician informed me that my broadband was facing excessive strain and claims to be able to assist me with it. But here's the catch - they insisted on gaining direct access to my computer. I advise you all to exercise caution as this person is highly deceitful and poses a significant threat. It is clear that they are not who they claim to be; rather, they are a malicious hacker actively seeking access to personal information.

Interestingly, I received a call from an unknown number and they disconnected without saying a word. However, based on comments from others, it seems clear that it was the typical scam attempt to gain access to people's computers and steal their personal information. What's intriguing is the prefix 000, which is only used as an international dial-out access code in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda as far as I know. Yet, the scammers behind this always have Indian accents. However, I believe this doesn't provide any significant clues since these individuals can use numbers from anywhere in the world - one case involved a hairdresser from Florida! I tried contacting UK's 020 8833 3666, who confirmed receiving numerous similar inquiries and expressed frustration with the situation.

So, today I got a call from this number, and the bloke said he was Peter from BT. Started going on about how our internet was being hacked or something dodgy was going on. I just told him to stop messing about and said my hubby sorts all that stuff out. Asked him to give me a number to call back on, which was an 0800 one that sounded kinda like BT's. After he hung up, I did a 1471 and came across this info!

Like many others, I received a call from a lady named Rita who had Indian accent, claiming to be from BT. She informed me that some users were attempting to access my internet connection and engage in illegal activities via my WiFi. She then requested a list of all devices connected to my hub and instructed me to open my computer so she could guide me through searching for crucial information. In response, I mentioned that my husband is an IT consultant (when in fact, he isn't) and stated that I would consult him later. Subsequently, she abruptly ended the call.

Just a warning, someone tried to get into my computer by making me launch a remote access tool using the Windows+R shortcut. A lady named Leesha or Lisa phoned, claiming our internet was compromised and she needed to help fix it remotely. I kept telling her everything was fine with our connection and even got the call cut off three times, but she kept calling back. The call finally stopped when I told her I don’t use Windows or Mac, I run Linux instead. PLEASE WATCH OUT, THIS IS DEFINITELY A SCAM!

Got a call from someone claiming to be with BT, asking for my computer’s ID number. Total scam, no doubt about it. I rang BT to check and they said it’s already been flagged with 'Action Fraud.' Honestly, I don’t get why BT can’t just block these nuisance calls for their users. Never hand over any info like that - it’s a nightmare waiting to happen if you do. Everyone should be pestering BT to put an end to these dodgy calls.

A woman from India called claiming she was from BT and asked if I was the primary account owner, to which I said yes. She then started talking about some illegal stuff happening with my BT broadband. I questioned her how I could be sure she wasn’t just some scammer trying the same trick, and she immediately hung up. Seems like BT’s security is pretty rubbish if details are leaking to outsiders like this. Honestly, BT should be held responsible for letting their phone system be used for dodgy business like this, they must know it's happening.

Got a ring from some bloke calling himself "Peter" claiming to be from BT India. Said my broadband was involved in dodgy stuff and wanted me to give over passwords and personal details. Sorry mate, not falling for that. He started banging on about some "virus detector" he'd got, so I just told him where to stick it. Gave BT a bell after, and they suggested buying a special phone that supposedly blocks annoying calls??? Honestly, you’ve gotta laugh at it all.

Then she claimed someone was using my internet for some "illegal stuff." I hung up straight away and used 1471 to check the number she called from. Turns out it was dodgy. Just to add, I am with BT broadband and when I’ve called customer service before, they often have Indian accents too, so I was cautious and kept the call going a bit longer today than I normally would.

Just got a call from someone claiming to be Andrew at BT, and something felt off straight away. The phone number looked dodgy, plus the call was crackly and clearly over some poor IP connection. He couldn't give me simple info like my postcode properly - the one he gave was definitely wrong. Also, I know BT wouldn’t share that kind of detail on a phone call because of privacy rules. I kept him chatting for a good while as he threw all sorts of weird questions at me. Honestly, bit of a laugh, but heads up everyone - these folks are after access to your web browsers, so watch out!

A man named Andrew, claiming to be from British Telecom, called me. It was a short and compressed IP call. He inquired about the status of my internet connection. This number has rung me twice lately; the most recent was on 31/8. Both times they claimed there was an issue with my BT broadband. After the first call, I made it clear I wasn’t interested and hoped they’d stop calling. But, annoyingly, I got another call a couple of days later. This time, I said I don’t even have BT broadband. They then switched and said Sky had reached out to them about my internet. When I insisted I wasn’t with Sky either, they just hung up. Feels like they’re guessing BT rather than having any real info.

I've been inundated with calls of late from someone claiming to be from BT, insisting that my internet has been compromised. They assert that a staggering 100-plus devices are linked to my connection - quite the stretch, considering I live in the sticks and barely have 20 people or gadgets in total! They come across as rather persuasive and tend to get a bit aggressive if you push back on their claims. Genuine calls from BT typically originate from an 0800 number, so I reckon this is nothing more than a dodgy scam. I'd advise hanging up immediately!

Over the last couple days, I've had two calls from people with Asian accents. The first was a bloke, and just today, it was a woman. We said no to everything and then they just ended the call.

Got a call earlier where the person just cut me off straight away. About a month back, I received a similar call from a bloke with an Indian accent claiming to be Henry from BT. I told him I was recording the call for the GMP and pressed a button on my phone to create a beep sound - he just hung up abruptly. That’s a dodgy call if I ever heard one. I reported it to BT for them to look into but haven’t heard anything back yet. Had some internet issues around six weeks ago and had to call India myself. Sounds fishy to me. BT really need to sort this out.

Someone from OWL Watch got a call from a person claiming to be from their service provider, saying their account had been compromised. The caller asked several personal questions about their home before requesting the password to get into their computer. When the person said they felt uneasy and wanted to talk it over with family first, the caller tried to persuade them to give access anyway and promised to ring back. When the follow-up call came, the person refused to let them in.
