I had to use this number from Microsoft to verify my identity for Microsoft 365, especially since the usual text code didn’t come through due to some local network updates. I knew the call was coming and have done this before while working from home. If you’re not waiting for a call like this, probably best to just ignore it.

Received a call claiming to be from "Microsoft authentication" and they asked me to hit the # key to verify something. Then they tried to confuse me by saying if I wanted to report the call as a scam, I should press # too. Obviously, it’s a scam trying to catch you out. Don’t press the hash or any other buttons no matter what. I’ve already had this dodgy call twice in the past few weeks.
